so i've been meaning to pick up some sort of les paul/sg, but i don't wanna dish out the money for a gibson, and epiphone's are the next best step. but how about some cheap clones that are awesome? i know people on here have em, so why not share and try to convince people to buy something without a fender/gibson name on it?

I've heard Greco copies tend to be good. I have no experience with them, though.
Rondo also gets a lot of praise...

I have a greco les paul which is 12% less good than my custom shop blah blah gibson les paul.
And I feel 100% better hurling it across the stage.
Definitely good instruments.

Another vote for rondo/agile
I've got a AL-2800 bari (lp) which is pretty sweet.
The pickups needed to go (they were ok, I'm just picky with humbuckers), but otherwise it was playable out of the box.
Only downside with them is you have to buy sight unseen, though I hear Kurt is pretty helpful with getting you a guitar you like if you're not happy with the purchase.

Troof!
Depending on what you want to pay, you can get a MIJ Burny cheaper then a Gibson and it will be as good or better then a gibson, I have a 80's Burny SG that I got for around $600 that nicer built, sounding and playing then most "real" SGs I have played.

I have a univox LP copy that is a complete freak, I actually tried it out along side some epi and cheaper gibson LP's and liked the neck feel a ton better, plus I tend to like the smallish frets on older guitars.

Electra is another awesome 70's/80's Japanese brand.
I have a X290 Workingman and it kills.

I like stellar guitars. I've got this one in a cool green sunburst finish:

I talked my friend into getting one of their les paul copies and it sounds good and plays well.
