this may seem like a dumb question, but i need to ask it to save some cash.

i have a 200 watt solid state Randall head paired up with a cheap B-52 4x12 cab with a 400 watt handling (100watts a speaker). transporting the cab has become a problem since its very heavy, so i was thinking about getting a Marshall 2x12 cab.

the marshall cab 2x12 has celestion speakers that can only handle 150 watts.

so my question is that if i use my 200watt head and use it at a low volume, is there still a chance i can blow out the speakers? in my mind and gut i think that it will, even with the power amp at 2 and preamp at MAYBE 3, i could still burn them out.

has anyone tried this?? i was thinking switching out 2 of the 100 watt speakers in the 4x12 and putting them in the 2x12, but i have no experience with soldering or electronics.

is it easier to do than i may be making it out to be?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

First question; Yes as long as you don't crank it the speakers will survive.

It's pretty to swap speakers. if your connections have jacks that slip over the speaker lugs, it's just a matter of pulling them off and attaching them to the lugs on the new speakers.

If soldered, just unsolder them and solder to the new speakers.
It's really not that hard at all.
