Folks, experience beyond my years required.

I use a smallsound/bigsound fuck, an EHX DMMTT, a Boomerang III Phrase Sampler and an old Coloursound volume pedal.

Now, the cost of one or two of these going missing would cost me the same as rejigging my live board with a Boss BD-2/Tubecreamer, a Danelectro Reel echo, a simple looper (Headrush or somesuch), and maybe n EQ or something for a killswitch.

Gigs are on the up and up and though I'm wary, I'm concerned about losing more difficult to replace stuff. Am I overthinking this?

The only thing I would be worried about is the Colorsound because it's an older pedal. All the others are pretty sturdy and should be able to withstand some significant abuse.

The only thing that's only happened to me that was even kinda wierd was that this guy got really close, too close, adn started head bandging on my pedal board. I kicked him in the head, and my pedals were saved. The only things I've replaced are footswitches, besides for that, there's nothign to worry about.

Get an m9/13. Maybe keep the fuck. Win.

I get nervous about gigging with expensive pedals/amps/guitars (I gig A LOT, even sturdy shit has broken); found good-sounding less-expensive alternatives, rest easier.

It does not hurt to have backup pedals especially if you can pick them up cheap. Sure you want to sound your best live but you can still get nice sounds out of cheaper stuff.

My eventual pedal board plan inclues two seperate boards, one filled with my proper effects, one with cheaper and also smaller (fuck carrying shit) pedals.

I'd rather loose a £350 board than a £600 one. Pedals are the easiest thing to steal as well.

If you can do it and also use both boards at home, then I think it's worth it, if you're just buying for the sake of it...

Don't forget the audience as well though, they wont care if your tap tempo Deluxe Memory Man uses the 3005 chip with higher headroom compared to your 3205 Deluxe Memory Boy... so you gotta pick your battles, what do you reallyyy need for home recording, in a band situation is something not gunna matter if it goes missing or breaks other than being a financial burden.

If your worried about someone jacking your pedals just be more aware and try not to leave them unattended.

it kind of just depends on where you're gigging/what kind of crowds you're playing to.
i never worry about my stuff but then again, i don't play in a thrash punk band or play blues covers in chickenshacks. i might be worried about my gear then.
also, it never hurts to have an inexpensive backup...

Worth buying stock effects for live performance?

Fuck that shit! I've played motherfucking outdoors in downhomey situations with my full board many times and never had a issue other then having to vacuum dust and dirt off the next day. Why get pedals for the sounds you want if you aren't going to use the fucking things to get the sounds you want?

yeah I've played in punk and harcore bands for nearly 15 years now. The only trouble I've ever had is the old people spilling beer on the amp trick. Even my old DL4 which has dirt in it from an outdoor show in 2002 is still kicking along.

I dunno, it's kinda...they're meant to be played, you know? The only reason I'd do it is if I was touring and needed to use stuff that could be replaced easily when it broke.

That said, I've also dropped a lot of money fixing amps in the abovementioned incidents so, I can understand where you're coming from.

It really depends on how often/how far you're gigging and what the gig environment is going to be like.

It gives me my most basic tones for playing pretty much any instrument. I think keeping a backup for some of your older/more delicate pedals isn't a bad idea not really a necessity though.
