Hey Guys,

If you could have pedals designed to your liking, what would they be? Are you looking for muffs, slow-gear type pedals, delays, modulation, overdrives, equalizers, compressors? I have the option to invest in a builder at this time, but would prefer the business model to be a bit more toward what the community is looking for, rather than what the builder simply wants to create.

This may not be the most popular/profitable option, but I would really like to see an analog sounding bass synth pedal that has the ability to store at least four presets. I would prefer a pedal with the footprint of the EHX bass/guitar synths and come in with a price point of $350 or less. Something Taurus or ARP sounding would be killer.

Personally, I'd like to see a "melting AM radio" style distortion/overdrive pedal.

Tough question.

Stuff that isn't just clones of older circuits.

My own thoughts:

Unique stuff.

Brian from Smallsound/Bigsound commands my attentions (and my finances) due to his unique designs and their defining, well thought out features. Aen from Dwarfcraft and Ryan from Dr. Scientist hold my interest due to their well built and often odd options. The dudes from Wilson Wahs I like because they expand upon vintage circuits whilst keeping quality high and prices down.

Boomerang got me to buy one of their Phrase Loopers because of its huge functionality and lack of features I won't use (I like to do everything live. No prerecording.)

That's why the Strymon Timeline doesn't appeal to me any more. I'd use 3 settings on it. So I bought an analog delay and am shooting for an El Capistan, because of it's useful features and the fact that it's solely a Tape Delay emulator.

What i'm trying to say is, make the pedal simple, deep (as in versatile) and good sounding. I think a lot of the guys around here like one box per effect, (otherwise we'd probably be more into the GT-10's), but for that effect to be of a high sound and build quality, have something on offer the many, many other effects like it do not. Make it easy to tweak, and sculpt sounds out of. Make it good.

Don't build yet another TS-808. Don't build a Big Muff. Don't build a DS-1.

A decent looking unit never turned a buyer off either.

While i agree that most people like one box per effect another idea i've had is a "tourbox stomp" a medium footprint size pedal (say like an eqd ghost disaster size) that combines say a fuzz/distortion and a delay with a tuner out so musicians who dont have room to carry a pedal board in their packed tour van or can't afford one, can still get the basic necessities in one stomp box. You could even gear them towards different genres if your going to have a marketing strategy in your business plan, so say for doom you have a dual pedal that is a high gain fuzz into an analog delay with a master bypass and a delay trails switch, for shoegaze you can have say a dynamic overdrive into a digital delay/reverb also with a trails switch. This keeps power supply needs to a minimum, no need for a pedal board and the basic sounds necessary to accomplish a tone goal all in one pedal. This may not appeal so much to the pedalphiles here on this board it has a larger market outside of here in a community that has disposable income (late teens early 20's musicians trying to play out or tour and are very genre based) because if your going to be investing in a company you want to see profit out of your investment you need to look at where the market is going to be fruitful, and there are already alot of custom or boutique pedal builders that appeal to pedalphiles which is a harder market to break into without building a name for yourself first. Oh and matching the graphics to the tone of the pedal never hurt either! Hope this helps!

Excellent suggestions, guys! I agree with several of these.

Please keep them coming and once I get a good consensus, I'll develop the plan a bit further while keeping everyone informed. I run a lot of businesses (no ego intended here - just want to let you know that I hear you) and I've always found that catering to the people with quality product and realistic pricing always works. I've also got an amazing graphics girl, as well as a guy that specializes in doom-type day of the dead stuff. Enclosures are also going to be of high quality. I've invested in a company that created a box that could be run over by a truck and still remain intact.

I want a moogesque LPF [BIG-WET-CRUSHING] built into a wah where the treadle controls the res-freq and also CV control inputs for all the controls. Yeah something like that.

This is a great idea. Look at the Captain Coconut 2. Technically a Multi-FX unit, the difference being the effects were great in it. That's the main thing, really. Br great to see a fuzz/od/delay or something along those lines.

This. A thousand times this. One of my favorite sounds ever. I get close to this with some settings on the Circuit Breaker actually.

this is a cool idea and i like it alot, i achieve a similar low-fi complete breakup sound with a cheaply made treble/bass booster i bought of ebay for 20$ from some kid in new england, it didnt even work when i bought it, i found the broken lead and soldered it back on, fixed the grounding issue on the output jack and plugged it in, when cranked in low boost mode it gives a really nice low-fi breakup all with a volume boost it actually turned out to be a kinda cool pedal and actually very useful for textural and ambient guitar riffs.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been waiting for someone to do a clone (or modern remake, if you will) of the Maestro Stage Phaser.

I would like a pitch vibrato with an LFO that is actually slow, instead of every VB-2 clone that only goes kinda medium speed at it's lowest setting. I want huge (read octave) warble very, very slowly, and not have it be a huge fucking pedal.



that probably exists, but I'm just dumb and lazy.

I still want stereo splitter/pan that splits and/or pans based on attack envelope.

Ha! That sounds amazing and I want one. This is a simple thing, but if you make a delay, I think having separate volume controls for the dry and delay signal would be great. I've never seen anything that does this (timefactor and timeline probably do though) and it seems to me like the best way of controlling it. Like my EHX delays sound great and do cool things and it's good that they go 100% dry-100% wet, but the middle settings have a stupid volume drop because of the way they do it.

bumping this up a bit. thanks for more suggestions. the am radio idea is awesome, as is the pitch vibrato. there are pedals that certainly do the crazy vibrato thing, but it's the high end that i want to keep clean - very few do that. i'm also way into the delay and envelope options. i'm huge into that stuff.

and phasers...yes. i noticed one guy on the board makes a 14 stage. that's pretty awesome. gotta put in an order for that one..
