Bass VI/Baritone Guitar questions

I had it in my head that I'd build a Bass VI-ish type instrument using a Warmoth Musiclander body. I've never done anything like this before, so it'll be a bit of an adventure...

Coupla questions: is a 28" scale gonna be sufficient, or is 30" necessary? If it is, where can I find a 30" neck that'd be compatible with a Warmoth body? Also, pickups. I wanna just go one pickup, one volume knob, output. Should I do a Jag-style pickup, or would a humbucker be more appropriate?

I'm still gonna be trying to fill the role of "bassist" with this thing.

Warmoth sell the Bass 6 neck, which is a 30" scale and designed for such an experiment. I'd give them a call and see if they say it can be made to work with a Musiclander body- I've never built a warmoth so don't know how interchangable all thier designs are.
You could always go all out with thier Bass 6 model and have a 6 string bass guitar with a jazzmaster style tremolo, because guitars which stay in tune are boring as shit ;)

I don't really dig the Jazzmaster body, and I gotta go with one pickup, but I'll give 'em a call.

Warmoth made baritone neck so i think it's just perfect for your kind of project, maybe the old bassVI had a 30'' scale but fender jaguar baritone custom (jaguar VI) have an 28,8 scale,

anyway it's all your choice but I'm pretty sure the baritone warmoth neck will fit perfecly

Personally I think a 30" on a bari [dano] is pretty damn awesome.
BUT! here is what I would do... go to a store that has a 30" scale bass and tune it down a about 1/2 a step and see if you like the way that it sounds playing the low E on the first fret compared to it open. Sure that isn't a "exact" but at least you will have first hand experience.

your right,

It depends witch tunning you prefer, with a 30'scale, you can tune E to E, 1 octave lower, but with 28'scale if you try to tune 1 octabe lower, it's will probably sound litle flat, and you will probably have frets buzz problem,

anyone have an 28'scale neck tunes in E to E ? I would like to know how it's sound (Even if not sure of the final result)

I had a dream last night I built both a Jazzmaster and Jag (with real Jag style pickups) 34” scale bass VI.
They looked good and sounded great in my dream.
