how to question.....

when something is obviously wrong with a pedal circuit wise, what methods are there to troubleshoot what needs to be replaced? I have a couple things that need a fixin. A gz, an older tape echo that was NOS, and most currently my triangle muff clone. The muff worked fined the last time I used it (around 7 months ago :idk: ) The light still powers on and it passes a signal bypassed (true bypass thoughs, so that doesn't really matter I guess). I looked at the board and everything appears ok. I tapped around and moved the board and got it to work for a split second here and there. The only thing that could have possibly happened is a power supply mix up, but all of my ps are 9 vlts, so it couldn't have hurt anything. is there anything other than repopulating the board that can be done to find out what needs to be replaced or resoldered? Sorry if it is a bad question.

Hmm, your muff osunds like maybe you're losing ground contact for the distortion circuit, or you just have a loose connection somewhere.

If your GZ is fucked up, and you didn't abuse it, I bet I konw a lady who'll fix it.

psst- it's devi.

the ground thing sounds like it may be the culprit... I didn't build the clone, is was done by Axis Effects, the job was pretty shotty to begin with, and some of these caps are barely making contact with the joints, the are literally wiggling around.

Resolder every thing, and clean up any spluges of solder and that should take care of the trouble with the Muff.

Hmm, I always add more splooges to my solder work.

FOR MOJO AND TONE.

Well I have been known to Spluge (splooge ? correct spelling?) when overly excited.

Darry, what kind of tape echo is it?

You could use an Audio Signal Tester to help find out where the problem is. They are very easy to build and use if you don't already have one.

they are both Univox's. one seems to never have existed((EM350)...the only thing I have EVER found is a single review on HC...which I have reason to believe was left by the guy who sold it to me. :idk:
It sounds incredible, even the preamp sounds amazing...it has two wierd looking IC's in it that I assume are the reason...I have droped it off my amp twice and it is still going strong. Even when the motor dies I will still use it for its preamp.

the other is an EC100, funny thing about it though is it was NOS...it was forgotten about and still in the original box with papers and everything. The tolex even looked brand new and it still had that "fresh from the factory" smell....it didn't sound nearly as good as the EM350. But it did have untouched tape heads and a fresh motor. It is the one that I fucked up. I suppose I could always keep it for parts for my EM350 when it does start to die....those motors I'm sure are impossible to find anywhere. I also thought about repopulating the board all together...maybe put whatever those IC's are in the 350 in the EC100...the only problem with that is there are 2 trimpots that are HUGE...I have never seem them that size before, and have no idea how to find replacements...they may still be ok anyways....I am sure I popped a cap or something. those all look familiar to me.
