Help me pick new fuzz. Currently, I have a green Russian Muff clone and a Big Muff w/ tone wicker. The Russian Muff will stay. I love the BMTW, but it only sounds good when crank. So I’m looking for something different than a muff, sounds good at low volume, and good with chords. I’m considering these, but was wondering if my assumptions are correct or not.

Pharaoh – Similar to the muff sound?
Hoof – ^^^^
Tone Reaper – to high gainish?
Dream Crusher – From the videos, this sounds sweet.
Dirt Transmitter – Not really into the gated sounds.


These correct or totally wrong.

Any others I should look into.

fuzzy logic:

if sound bad <+fuzz>
if sound good <input false; sounds bad>

good with chords = AB

Try a tonebender, or maybe a Noisemaker Crush Fuzz. I recall hearing good things about those, and they're hella cheap.

Is the Reaper a TB?

Yeah. Though, there's a billion different TB variants. Several threads on those, I recommend Ghost Effects if you're gonna go down that path.

Are all TB types high gain? I like the Tone Reaper, just wondering if it's high gain?

The Dream Crusher is based on the Fuzz Face so if you like those sounds maybe look into some more of the Fuzz Face based pedals.
There are plenty of them out there and of course EarthQuaker would be as good a place to start as any.
