Need help with parts for P/J bass

Hey Everyone! A friend of mine who builds pedals referred me to the Mammoth Electronics website for parts. Conveniently the front page of mammoth electronics linked me to this forum. I am new to playing the bass and have very little experience with instrument repair but it's obvious I'm in over my head and I need help ordering the correct parts.

So here's the deal. I purchased hacked and non-working Vester P/J bass off of craigslist. If you haven't heard of Vester don't worry, they weren't around long. The neck is straight and the frets are good but the good news ends there. It even has a plywood body. This is a passive P/J bass that was modified with an LED light and a switch. The switch is broken, the LED doesn't work, and the jack is broken. It doesn't make a sound when you plug it in. Since it needs so much work I figured I might as well buy new parts while I'm at it. I haven't heard it play but the pots feel scratchy and judging by the condition of the body it's a good bet they won't work satisfactorily anyways.

P/J bass wiring diagrams are online but they don't tell me what pots or capacitor values are necessary for repair. Can anyone link me to the correct parts needed to completely replace the pots and jack on this bass? I have no idea what the added switch could have been used for. I'm told that there are many possibilities for customizing the electronics. The hole has already been drilled for the switch and LED so they can be used, but I need educated on how a 3 way switch would function. The LED is broken and unimportant although I would replace it just to fill the hole. What are my options for parts and how will they affect the sound of my bass? This is definitely a project piece and I am open to possibilities.

3 pots, an input jack, a capacitor, a switch, and an LED? :idk:

I use Guitar & Bass Parts Resource http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/middle_bass.htm for most stuff anymore.
What you need for a normal passive PJ
3: 250K pots
1: mono 1/4" output jack
1: .1uF 200V CAPACITOR
with that you could just wire it like a Jazzbass and be fine if you feel you need a switch
look up TOGGLE SWITCHES.
You don't need the LED

good luck.

Wow, fast response. Will the standard J bass kit from that website work for a P/J also? I have no trouble with highs, any reason not to build my own kit with 500k pots?

What's this audio taper/volume taper all about? Thekits don't specify what are included in the j bass kit.

most volume controls use logarithmic pots, would be labeled, a250k. I would assume a full kit would come with the proper ones.
