then you might like this new short where I did the soundtrack. It is Goblin-esque at heart. Let me know what you guys think. Any feedback is helpful and appreciated.

I liked it. I really enjoyed the down tuned stuff in there. One comment though is for a sound track I find it a tad up front/direct meaning I think it needs a little more space/environmental treatment, but that is a minor point.

yeah, I was hoping to add more room to it with reverb, but the guy mixing it couldn't get it to work right. I've decided that I am going to start mixing my own shit. Even though it will be ugly at first, the end result will be worth it.

It helps that it is the only sound in the video, but, once again, I totally agree with you.

:thumb: I think you are thinking the right way. I have to really know a person [for years] before I let them mix anything I do. I also think it is a very good thing to to know how to do well and helps you be able to make what you are doing the way YOU hear it. Ambients are tricky at first and really you have to layer, you can't expect to just throw one thing on there and have it work which is what a lot of people try. you want to build using small amounts.

But really for what you are doing you are really nailing scary :thumb: I'd love to hear a few more pieces in the vein of this.

 thanks guys. This was a combination of two live takes using three mics while playing to the video. We had a synth and two guitars we were switching between. and then a room mic. the drum beat is actually hitting a shoe box with a mic in it that is then sent through a pog 2 on the -1 and -2 octave switches up to get that thud, then loop station.

I agree with the small bits at a time. I'm learning that.

There is an interview with Bjork where she had this sound in her head, and at first what she thought she wanted was a single violinist playing a part, but to actually get what she wanted it had to be something like 10 or 20 violinists playing the same thing very quietly.

I'm glad we nailed scary because I knew the music had to carry this piece a lot. This is actually an edited down version of a 12 minute short film this guy did back in high school. He wanted to redo it and track it. I think it is immensely improved over what it was.
