As requested, who loves fuzz more poll.

Since this is devolving into a beer thread I've added two more choices and increased the number of votes per user to two.

We'll see, hope people can keep it classy. The original question was inspired by some very polite Norwegians that were in the shop today. They bought a guitar from us and I have a sweet 1 Krone coin now.

That is awesome (about the norwegians), and ending badly and ending well are all a matter of perspective I guess.

I would think that you could probably trace the origins of fuzz to asia, based on the many stringed instruments that produce a natural distortion. Plus pretty much everything cool that we have (pasta/fireworks/kungfu movies) was stolen from asia anyway.

That's where the definition of fuzz would probably split... fuzz or distortion was originally made by cutting the speaker cone of the cab. the asians may have had many string instruments but i don't really think they invented the fuzz pedal as we know it these days.

I have fuzz from all those places. Most are from USA, but that's local. I love 'em all. I've had a Norwegian GTR playa in my band--right now I'd rather have a Norwegian fuzz. Put up or shut up Norway!

I voted USA, not because of any concept of nationalism, but when I think of popular guitar based music from Australia/Canada I think of more OD centric sounds(AC/DC, BTO, Yes that is my entire perception of those two countries), EU I think Scandinavian Metal, Japan I think power metal(Dragonforce, ect.) or other distortion based sounds. That leaves US and UK. UK saw the first popular use of fuzz effects(Satisfaction, Yardbirds, Hendrix who got popular in the UK), however, as was said, the idea came out of American rock n roll and, to a lesser extent, country musicians altering their amplifiers or cables to get a grittier sound.

More contemporarily I compared the early 90's. While the US saw grunge as dominant, UK(excluding shoegaze due to lack of prominence at the time) went in a deliberately different direction with britpop, deemphisizing hard rock sounds and moving back to a beatles-esque style of song-writing/recording.

of course all of this is absurdly subjective and selective in information. :idk:
