Just the other day I was asking some people why anyone gave a flying fuck about R.E.M.

and they p much founded how alternative bands tour, and started up the whole circuit of smaller venues n stuff. and were like the founding fathers of the genre along with Husker Du and The Smiths (at least to me)
also apparently ripped them off to make Kid A

I'm not sure how I feel about this.
One hand: I like R.E.M.
Other hand: The last two albums weren't that great so, it's nice that they left before they did the, "Let's just play that one album that everyone liked from the 80's" tour.

reading on the R.E.M. wiki page that their sales are near U2s made me look up U2 and made me realize that they rip off some fucking awesome bands like Joy Division and Television and Siouxie and now i don't know what to do with my life.
