CP Jazzmasters - meh?

so when i was in prague for BTBAM+AAL show, i stopped by in a few music stores. I was lucky since i've been able to try two CP Jazzmasters, one in each store
BUT
the first one was kinda fucked up... dull sounding bass strings and out of tune ALL THE TIME (no i didn't use the vibrato). Plus it was suprisingly hard to play - i'm used to play a tele with at least tens, more often elevens and it's a dream to play - unlike the Jazzy. Felt really stiff to me... weird, no super heavy strings, the neck didn't seem too fat... amybe the radius is more "vintage"?
the second one had strings in better shape and stood in tune quite well but was still kinda hard to play (yeah, maybe the radius thing)
I appreciate the rhythm/lead switch, but usually it seems either too bright or too muddy... i have to say i absolutely loved the lead circuit's neck pickups with distortion for rhythm

(IF the lead circuit is the bright one) and all in all - the guitar has tons of nice character
I have to say i wasn't really satisfied... i didn't expect that
i still might be a Jag guy, huh?
so what about you, guys? any similar experience?
edit: plus what the fuck is up with those pickups? The amount of hum is ridiculous

the pickups, IMO, in the classic player jazzmasters are shit.
I have not had a good experience with the classic players, but I loved the AVRis

Yeah i'd expect them to be better because they're over twice as expensive here...
THEY'RE SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE

For 800 dollars here, I was pretty disappointed. but I understand.
there was a wave of jazzmasters in post hardcore music, so people would buy these up because they have hotter pickups and the tremolo is closer to the bridge, for more rock stuff and the strings wouldn't slip around for when you have to play teh br00talz chords
I wish they made a MIM one with truer specs than this

frankly after this experience i wouldn't be surprised if Squier J Mascis impressed me more :-x but let's wait till i try one
anyway - i guess shorter scale on Jags could work better for me, should feel much easier to play... but it doesn't look like i could try one anytime soon

I can't comment on the Jazzies, but I will say my CP Jaguar is one of the nicest guitars I've EVER played. Super smooth to play, great trem, awesome tone, and overall very, very solid.
If I buy another guitar (we all know that will read "when I buy another guitar") it will be a second CP Jag - probably an Oly White HH one. I can't recommend them enough.

Yea, second on the CP Jag HH. I even like the pickups, and I'm very rarely a bucker guy.
Used they're absolute steals; I paid well under 5 for mine with one of the GC clearance sales after Christmas last year. Stays in tune stupidly well through a lot of abuse, sounds good, even took a GK pickup for the Roland synths thanks to the trem being moved up that little bit. The synth pickup with the old "behind the bridge" Jag/JM trick is hilariously fun.
Neck very very much reminds me of my beloved long-gone '64 Mustang, all it's missing is the slab board.
Best money I've spent on a guitar in twenty years.
I'd assume that the JMs you played either had a bad setup or were just clunkers; played a couple JMs in the line that were perfectly fine and serviceable, but I've never been a fan of the pickups even on the vintage ones so....

I fucking hated mine; It didn't sound like a jazzmaster, the neck felt wrong, the trem was in an awkward as fuck place, screw in arm broke once every week.

I love mine, but I played 3 or 4 before I found one that felt right. I did have to shield it, was noisy as hell.
