Just out of curiosity. How much are these things going for these days. I know they are fairly rare. My Google skills aren't pulling anything up any more recent then gear forum FS threads from 2010 and older. I might have an opportunity to pick one up, not sure if I will, but I do love me some Trent Reznor.

I had one back in 2008 and paid something like 250 Pounds for it, sold it a week later with a loss of 100 bucks or so…

I was never that disappointed with a pedal purchase…

The Filter is pretty weak, the Ring Mod nearly not noticeable and there are very few subtle sounds available just get a LAL CP Filter or an IE Xenograph DLX when you want some crazy sounds.

I wouldn't be looking to for Ring Mod duties. I've got an MF-102 for dat. I think I'm looking for something that can do LP filter sweeps like MF-101 + be able to do HP filter. Not really looking for anything too crazy. I've got a Meatball clone for envelope filter stuff.

That's too bad about the DBA. Did you mess with any of the internal pots when you had it back in the day? I wonder if that would make any difference. Ugh, they look so sweet though.

It's not thad bad. It's a filter with an interesting raw flavor (and that's what Reznor likes about it I heard...)
Most of the filter pedals you can find are clones of the MS20 or the Moog Lowpass filter that weren't designed for guitar.
This one really is different. It's extreme, saturates easily and can self oscillate. It behaves a bit like the Polivoks filter module I have in my modular that is a clone of the filter of an old russian synth.
I had an Evil Filter and I sold it because it was too close to the Reznor custom filter I bought from Noisebug, but with a little less options.
But keep in mind you'll have better result in a recording context, trying to craft your tone for a particular part than in a classic "pedalboard with a band" context.

For an unobtainable multi-band filter, the TSP MoleS20r is pretty much the shit. It's based on the Korg MS-20 filter (hence the name) with an added gain stage for distortion (which sounds great), and it's switchable HP/BP/LP. It also has separate CV and EXP inputs for the filter cutoff. Beyond good. AND it sounds soooooooo good when you starve it...... Definitely one of my "cold dead hands" pedals. I use mine with drum machines, synths and guitars.

TSP is so talented, I'm sure it sounds great.
Another great MS20 filter in a pedal is the Frostwave one.

Yeah, that Frostwave one is no joke for sure.

the evil filter has always been attractive, but if i was going the harsh filter + big bucks route, id look at the lastgasp art laboratories cyber psychic.

two oscillators, a Q and frequency knob, and you are able to use a expression pedal to change the sweep.

I had a chance to buy one earlier this year, but Kayzer's rantings swayed me against it (I wonder if he just got a dud?)...Anyway, I'd think you could score one in the $300-$400 range.

He's working on a Euro module version of the Teaspoon these days I believe, and he's hinted at being interested in doing another standalone pedal version of the Teaspoon as well.
