So, does that mean you got it to work?
Tracking's pretty crappy on those ... that's part of the charm. Compressor first helps a bit. Give it a constant signal to play with. Play clean individual notes --- chords ain't gonna work. Put dirt after it too, so it's not confused with all the harmonics.
Turn the tone down on your gtr.

I used one for years on bass because I had a noodly guitarist and someone had to fill in the midrange ...
Try the compressor trick, and don't turn the octave all the way up.

Get an Octave Multiplexer (or a POG) instead :)

Most bassists report that the neck p'up works best.

And if you have a bass with a old 30k mudbucker it'll track low E :)

Put a low-pass filter in front (or turn the tone down on your instrument), and make sure your notes ring out properly.
Also, don“t expect it to pick up your 16th notes at 220 bpm.
Do you play guitar or bass?

Those might not be 30k these days, I don't know. You can find old ones on ebay, and the like.

Guitar, but I think I'll ditch it already. I need to save up anyway for a bigger pedalboard

If I recall, the mudbucker in the Squier TB is damn close to 30K. It's loud as shit, muddy as hell, and cuts through a mix like a Prius through a concrete wall. But it's great for fuzz. : D

I seem to remember the coils being like 12.5K each when I measured it.

Bah! You don't cut through with a mudbucker, you surge under it like a riptide!

That's all fine and good, but are there sharks in the riptide to assure nobody escapes?
