Best handheld recording device??? (Recording soon)

My buddy and I have some noisy rock and roll jams that we would like to record soon and throw on bandcamp. I have been considering a handheld recorder for some time. I don't want to use my iphone/macbook mic. Of course the quality won't be great, but we more or less want to make our jams available when they are fresh.

Any suggestions for a decent recorder that could sit in our jam sessions that won't break the bank? :)

I have a Blue Yeti mic, plug it into your macbook and run garageband. I love it, and its a pretty good mic for the money :idk:

This looks pretty cool. Would it work well with freaky bass and loud drums?

I've used it to record drums and shit. You can also pick different types of mic styles, so I find that useful depending on what I'm doing

Figured you might like it more than a handheld recorder, but again :idk:

I bought my wife a Zoom H1 field recorder (which she has never used) and it's great and cheap.
I've got a Q3 as well, which is awesome.

I got an Olympus stereo condenser handheld and just started using it with my new band. I'm blown away by how good the recordings are. We're three guys (2 guitars/drums) in a 9x9 room and I can hardly tell what's happening when I'm in there, but I listen back and every note is evident, the drums are clear, no clipping. I'm really shocked at how well balanced the sounds are. It's like $69.00. The Zoom H1 was the other choice and I bet it's just as good.

this one?

I have one of those. the cool thing is that it's easy to operate simply and get really good sound quality out of the built in stereo mics...
or you can go multitrack and do overdubs and edit right there on the machine.. it also has two hybrid 1/4" - XLR inputs on the bottom.
Pretty handy and can sound really amazing, you can record at 96khz/24-bits.. i bought mine a couple years ago for like 300 bucks, i think it's cheaper now

Zoom H2. old product, but its pretty much the same as the more top of the line stuff you can get. like i'm pretty sure someone at zoom fucked up the price on this because you can get em for like $180 and they do stuff that $300 ones can do.
