I have put KT88's in everything I have except for one head. The remaining head has a quad of 6L6's and I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their 6L6's with the KT66's? My theory is that this may boost the voltage but not do too much more besides a slight bit of headroom. The KT88's made a HUGE difference in my other heads, and I've never tried the KT66's so I'd love to have a little advice before I spend some money, thanks.

In my Univalve, a KT66 gives a touch more clean headroom than 6L6. But not a crazy amount more. Otherwise, I think they sound sorta the same.
But I should think every amp is a bit different.

That's kind of what I thought would be the case, thanks

i think, the KT66 sounds dramatically better. especially when you push it hard. but if the univalve experience comes handy for bigger amps with more output tubes...
i had a jtm45 with KT66 and it sounded fuller than 6L6 or EL34 ones. But i never did a side by side comparision.

I don't normally run my Univalve 100% wide open, so maybe there's something I'm not hearing. Also, could be a tube brand difference thing.

It could also be differing cabs you guys use.

No. It is always the same "timbre".
But yes, it needs quite a Bit of listening expereience (i have Mine uv since 2001)
No cabs do not matter really. That is finetuning in the end.
