This may sound like a stupid question, but, how should I get started making noise music?

1. get guitar
2. hit it
also, listen to some old sonic youth

EDIT:
1. lean guitar against amp
2. turn on modulation
3. twiddle knobs
EDIT: EDIT:
get a sampler and sample anything you can get to make a noise
EDIT: EDIT: EDIT:
Fuzz into wah does wonders as well.

EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT:
And get a jazzmaster/jaguar.
EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT:
Also, dick around on some synths. One of my favourite tricks is plugging the headphone out jack on my microkorg into the dynamic mic input; turn to a vocoder patch, hit a key, then mess with the mic input level.

That is a interesting question.
First have you listened to any? what do you like and not like! Listen! to everything! Not just the overall but, the textures in the sounds, the vibe, read the title concept, see if it makes any sense or if it give you your own mind pictures, or if it make you mind stop working [this is good] and so on
For me it's about creating a sonic atmosphere/soundscape to a feel or mood, sometimes this is mellow sometimes it's rage, sometimes it's...
First time I was exposed to it was in the mid 90's, a friend of my cousin was a noise artist who had a pubic access show in SF called "The Pain Factor" and I went to a taping. I had never heard anything like this before. There were three acts one with a guy that put mics on little amps going into each other feeding back and blasting static while he buddy was strapped to a chair in a rubber mask and beaten by a plump dominatrix

Next act I do not remember other then more white noise blasting... Third act were two dudes one with a guitar through a shit ton of amps and he just sat there making all the booming feedback, I liked them... Mike my cousin's friend was know at the time as Death squad
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Death+Squad [this is a dude that could clear a fucking room, at a noise show, in Germany!

] and I ended up helping/hanging out during the recording of Theological Genocide.
It wasn't long after that I wanted to do that shit! It is fucking fun! I did al kinds of silly stuff with a contact mic I had [old buffalo nickel guitar pizo] and home made instruments

it took me a while to go OH! I should just use a bass guitar and make it sound like ____________

I liked the whole idea of making sounds to repulse, irritate, overpower, attack ect the listener

as time pasted I came to have more or a idea of what I wanted to do with noise
bah bah bah... just experiment, try
everything you can think of, don't worry "is the shit" who cares
Also gear does not really matter, it's what ou do with it that does.

It's all about the textures of the sounds. "Noise" takes all sorts of forms but imo it's great because anybody can do it and appreciate it in different ways. You can work it into part of a song, or you can make a piece entirely of "noise". You don't even need any knowledge of music theory or the ability to play any instrument to make it -- but you can also apply those if you got 'em.
"Noise" is different in the context of Sonic Youth than it is in the context of Merzbow. Sometimes you might think "fuck this is really awful" but maybe there's something you can take from it and at least use for future reference.
You can be fucking around with screwdriver and a guitar or you can be fucking around with a screwdriver and a guitar...with a certain theme in mind. Make your own soundscapes. It doesn't have to be super abrasive to be noise, either. But it can be if you want.
And you don't have to use a guitar. As said before the gear doesn't matter. Get/make some contact mics and a mixer, watch Tetsuo: The Iron Man for inspiration and go nuts. Whatever!
It's open; you don't "have" to do anything.
I love the "share your noise" thread, it's really interesting to hear what kinds of stuff people come up with.

Oh yeah! I have that but I haven't watched it yet!
Noise also seems to be associated with BDSM.
Which I can dig. But of course that's up to whoever makes it.

the best thing you can do is experiment and use whatever you have at your disposal.
ive realized banging the shit out of physical sound sources hooked up to a few pedals, is much more fun/rewarding than twiddling knobs of a whole bunch of stuff in a feed back loop. this is what works for me. to each their own.
making noise didnt really come together for me until i found a couple of good sound sources. scrap metal, things that vibrate, chains, field recorded sounds, springs, etc. connecting stuff like that to delays and fuzz, looping the the sounds and trying to layer stuff is what i kinda do now.

As has been said, listen. That's the key to making any kind of music. Stop, and learn how to listen so you know what to listen for. Then start dicking around a bunch.
Also, try circuit bending. Go to Goodwill, pick up some kind of kids music toy(or anything that makes sound with an output jack), run it through any number of effects and amps, and start tearing it apart so much that it still makes sounds and you don't electrocute yourself.
