Faifield Delay(a.k.a Bother Guillaume until he submits)

So, what do you think a Fairfield delay should be like? The man behind the music is asking us.

Suggested so far:
-Self-oscillation foot switch
-Tone knob for the repeats
-FX loop
-LFO
-CV for LFO
-bit crushing function in the repeats
-Old tape mode (like very old and all confused)
-Random noise delay
-Repeats that go slower or faster (or both at the same time).
-Lofi
-Tap tempo
-beat subdivisions (quarter note triplets, no dotted eighth note shit).
-LFO with waveform select (sine, square, and random) for modulation
-Time quality switch ("bitcrushed" sounds)
-Pre/post 3 band EQ
-Diffusion mode.
We've got the biggest, knob infested, bank-busting delay ever made.

I am into all of those options. If you're really shooting the moon, I would add reverb.

-Percussive sound in the repeats. (like a beat box)
-Kid toy like repeats.

-Self-oscillation foot switch: on other folks' delays these always go runaway with the volume level, which goes to ear-shattering almost immediately and makes the effect useless for anything subtle. it'd be far more useful if you could set a max volume for the self-oscillation.
-Tone knob for the repeats: yes.
-FX loop: to me, an unnecessary luxury. i can see why folks might want it, but it's going to raise the cost more than the functionality IMO.
-LFO: hell yeah.
-CV for LFO: who uses CV?
-bit crushing function in the repeats: the world has more than enough bit crushers already; if folks want bit-crushed repeats they can run the effected out through a bit crusher.
-Old tape mode (like very old and all confused): that depends on how tweakable it is, and how musical the end-user can make it. for me, a Mid-Fi level of whack without the ability to do something more musical would be useless.
-Random noise delay: see "Old tape mode"
-Repeats that go slower or faster (or both at the same time): see "Old tape mode"
-Lofi: who doesn't love lo-fi? probably the three people who use CV LOL.
-Tap tempo: is generally considered a minimum feature these days, kind of like a heater on an automobile.
-beat subdivisions (quarter note triplets, no dotted eighth note shit): on the one hand, if you use tap tempo cleverly you shouldn't need a subdivision switch to get triplets. on the other, if you're going to have subdivisions, why not include dotted-8ths, even if you hate U2? do you leave 8 out of math?
-LFO with waveform select (sine, square, and random) for modulation: if LFO, then why not LFO with selectable waveform?
-Time quality switch ("bitcrushed" sounds): there's a fair bit of redundancy here regarding lo-fi, "bit-crushed sounds," time quality, etc.; if there was one "time quality" switch that covered these functions for a reasonable manufacturing cost it'd be a useful feature. perhaps a multi-position flip switch that went from hi-fi->lo-fi->no-fi or something.
-Pre/post 3 band EQ: how creatively conceived and implemented is the EQ? a regular T/M/B EQ would be pointless, as it's more easily provided outside of a delay with better flexibility. if it was a parametric EQ, or something like the crossover scheme in the Four Eyes Fuzz, it could be incredibly wonderful.
-Diffusion mode: i don't even know what that is?

What about trails, with a loop mode? Basically just locks what you played and allows you to play over it. Kinda like on the echolution. Or adding three delay times for getting kinda glitchy.

the most interesting ideas i can think of offhand aren't technical features, they're doing things simultaneously: reverb with delay, and the ability to generate more than one series of echoes from the same note i.e. you'd get one nice clean delay and one dirty modulated delay which you could set at different rates and would repeat independent of each other.
oh, i know! the thing that drives me nutz when i use my delays as sound-on-sound tape loopers. i need the ability to take something that's running as a repeat on a long delay time and, by throwing or stepping on a switch, convert that repeat into loop mode.

I don't think Tap Tempo and beat subdivision are necessary... The Empress SuperDelay cover all those.
I'm thinking of something simple like the DMB Lunar Echo or the new Malekko Delay.
Something experimental but simple and afordable.
For my part I need something different from all others delay pedals out there... percussive repeat, repeats with strange lo-fi sound, etc...
Something fun and not complicated like all those digital beasts.

well, i did say specifically that tap tempo makes beat subdivision redundant if you use it properly. i do find some way to set tempo other than tweaking a knob useful, because i sometimes have to set tempo on the fly to a live beat or someone's count. one thing i've really come to dislike about my RV-3 is that you have to guess/tweak/play a note/tweak some more/lather/rinse/repeat to sync with, well, anything, and i'd go nuts trying to do sound-on-sound with the E2 and Flashback without the ability to use the tap tempo to set two- or four-bar phrase lengths. (edited for clarity)
i'm totally in favor of a delay that does weird and experimental sounds...i'd expect nothing less from FC. but i also need those "experimental" sounds to be adaptable to music that people with less rarefied sensibilities than mine will actually, y'know, listen to. and given Guillaume's other work, i'm sure he can do that; the Randy's Revenge is after all the only pleasant-sounding ring modulator i've ever heard.

Trails, definitely.
Reverse delay.
Ability to combine different repeat combinations (e.g. triplets + quarter notes), or entirely randomised, could be interesting...
Pitch-shifting warps on repeats.
