Hey dudes and dudettes as stated in a topic I posted in the gear section I recently acquired an old musitronics mu tron phasor
however it doesn't work it does bypass when powered on and when its engaged it just passes my normal guitar signal (boosted slightly)
and when I turn the depth knob to the left it makes a rather loud popping noise! my question being does anybody want to take
a crack at fixin this thing up and seeing if you can get it to function? if so pm me yer addy and I'll send it to you for a diagnosis.

that thing looks awesome, someone here should be able to get it going, the fact you are getting sound through it engaged means it can't be too fatal.

Yeah I thought that was a good sign too!

Those are awesome phasers. The phasor II is one of my all time favourites, but that one's great too.
I'll lay you odds the pot's just knackered and it might need a recalibrate.
Have you tried deoxiting the pot?

I just fixed a mutron II last week. I've had it for awhile and got it for 80 bucks or so off of ebay. It sorta worked and the seller said if you applied pressure on a certain part of the case some of the phasing would pass. I figured it would be a simple fix and it was. One of the electro caps had a broken connection and at one of the pots had loosened. It's a heavy board and the board mounted pots just weakened over time. Redid all of the pot joints and fixed the electro and it works just fine now.

Yours may have a similar issue or maybe it's something worse. These are easy to open up and inspect.

I have everything I need to replace the electro's and maybe even put new pots in it. I think I have deoxit somewhere. deoxit is like $10 and I dont want to buy it again. if its something simple as described by Lao, I can do the job. I've done work for you before so I guess that helps. you should buy a can of deoxit D5. get F5 if you cant find D5. spray it in the openings of the pot casing and rotate the pot fully CW and fully CCW 10 times. let it drip out, wipe it off, wait 5 minutes and test it out. if your still having problems, send it to me and I'll go through it replacing broken bits and bad solder connections. guitar center sells the deoxit locally. I fucking hate guitar center. but they have it.

No GC near where I live and my dad who's an electrician won't go near it so I'll send it eat's way and see if he can diagnose the problem.

Probably a good idea to replace the electros. The ones in mine "look" like they could use it but I just wanted to see if I could fix it. It works but I'll probably replace the caps sometime down the road.

this thing was beat to shit. the pots and footswitch were so loose they were barely connected. the rotary switch has a broken solder connection you can see in the photo. the power wire is a fire hazard to say the least. there are more cuts in the power wire closer to the unit. the audio jacks were previously messed with so now they are missing a washer. one of the pots has a bent shaft and missing knob. some of the screws are almost stripped. the PCB standoffs are gone so the board is just bouncing around. this thing needs love in every way. I'll post more later.

I believe I have some of those stand-offs.

Yeah about one of the audio jacks missing a washer thats my bad, when I pulled it out of my suitcase to try it out one of the
nuts was loose and basically fell off before I even plugged a cord into it I tried putting the washer back on but being the
clumsy jackass I am was unable to then I realized the day I mailed it to you I forgot to include the washer.

it was rusty so I painted the sides with epoxy white. its almost as good as powder coat. it has a new speed pot. I took the stock set screw knob off the depth switch and put it on the solid shaft speed pot. the depth switch was already knurled so I just put a new knurled knob on that. its on there tight now since its a different spline shaft. the notch in the depth switch matches the panel. I think it turned out pretty good. all the problems were taken care of.
