After being forced to dip my toes into the s.gze by you folk and my friend Tommy (who's also in the best damn shoegaze influenced screamo band ever), I'm now more than intrigued. And I have like, a Slowdive album, two MBV EPs and Loveless. So, what else should I have, friends?

Swervedriver, loveliescrushing, Ride, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Chapterhouse, Lush, Lilys, Resplandor, Cocteau Twins (and anything Robin Guthrie does)... Those are pretty much strictly shoegaze bands. There's a shit ton with heavy to medium amounts of influence like Deerhunter, Bardo Pond, A Place To Bury Strangers, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Our Dead, Japandroids, and pretty much every hipster hyped Internet band.

Medicine's 90s albums and eps (the later stuff isn't the same).

lovesliescrushing and anything else Scott Cortez plays guitar on, including Astrobrite and STAR.

Early stuff from Catherine Wheel is more gaze.

All of the above. For moderner stuff, check out Whirl (do a search - there was a thread about them recently), Ringo Deathstarr (new album is UH-MAYZ-INNNNNNNNGGGG in my humble opinionification), Pinkshinyultrablast and the album "White Angel, Black Apple" by The Lionheart Brothers. Also, "Citrus" by Asobi Seksu gets pretty 'gazey. And if you like reverby gaze with Brian Wilson harmonies, try "Waiting for the Time to be Right" by The Brother Kite. And while I don't know their stuff that well, I know a lot of 'gazey peeps who love The Asteroid #4. Oh! And All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors.

Also, "They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days In The Glittering World of Salons" by the Swirlies is required listening for just about anyone who reads this forum. So much goodness there.

The bold I can vouch for.

Bardo pond is Awesome:

Also, if you want swirling guitars, you really can't go wrong with Sonic Youth.

I kind of hate shoegaze as a genre - I've checked out so many of these bands based on the MBV comparison and they never do anything for me. Yet I think Loveless is one of the best records EVER. Most of these bands seem to be just pop bands with pop songs with some fuzzy guitars thrown in, where MBV had such an amazing production and texture to them...... another example is The Smashing Pumpkins in a way, Siamese Dream is probably the best sounding records ever, and the guitar tone is so good I can even get past Billy Corgans vocals....... but once they lost the spectacular production on SD I lost all interest...... fucking Bullet With Butterfly Wings? No thanks I'd rather get shot in the fucking face with a handgun.......... So I guess I actually sort of hate pop music, regardless if there's fuzz or not, unless it's ABBA who are awesome. You know what I'm saying? If Loveless didn't have that amazing production I wouldn't be that interested.........

Anyway, I guess hearing all these sub par knock offs just reaffirms to me how good Loveless is...... I think Loop should be more well known and appreciated, they were awesome......... now those guys knew how to write songs..... And Sun Dial!!
