So I'm using a Ampeg Ba 115 Combo amp ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/amp ... bass-combo ) and it has an XLR type line out. My home made cab (its a 12inch speaker and i know that it works because i tried it with a different combo amp) Out of the cab is a 1/4 inch cable so i got a adapter thats a female XLR and a female 1/4 inch cable ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... le-adapter ). So plugged in the adapter and everything fits and seems alright but still no sound out of the cab :(. My only thought is the possibility of the adapter being Stereo. Should it be mono or ...? :idk: I dont know the difference or anything really about this stuff besides a fairly basic knowledge. Any help or ideas would be appreciated and if you know what i would need post links please.
Thanks yall :joy:

a line out has no power, you need a speaker out for it to work
the line out is merely the preamp usually goes to the sound board

Buy a power amp to put in between.

This is the only way that would work, and it's a bit more effort to do that than the final result would be worth, really.

Agreed, need to go a different route here.

You could open up the back of the combo cab, and wire the stock speaker and drill + wire a speaker jack in series or parallel, so you'd always have the combo speaker on and providing a load for the amp. A speaker jack is @ $2.50, plus some speaker wire and solder.

You'd have to check to make sure you were running the amp at the right ohms when you wire in the jack, even w/ it being solid state. If it's made to run at 8 ohm and your two speakers run it at 4 ohms it's possible to damage the amp.

I actually took the amp out of teh BA-115 and put it in a head, and it's amazing. As previously stated the line out will go to a mixer for a PA and that's really all. The BA-115 is 100 watts at 4 ohms and the speaker is a 4 ohm 150 watt speaker, so if you really like the way the amp sounds I'd do as I have done and have it put in a head. Here is a pic. It's on top of my Peavey 2x15. I had the amp mounted as it would have been in the Ba-115 not like an Acoustic amplifier look.
