ALESIS WEDGE (LUSH REVERB/SHOEGAZE CONTENT)

So, I just won one of these on ebay for 75$ U.S. (Shipping was a pain though, close to 40$!). I'm hoping Canada customs won't charge me through the roof :grumpy:

Apparently, these units sound better than the quadraverb GT''s (it utilizes two chips from em). It's also got a bypass button on it! hooray. If the buffer is any good, I may not need a TB Loop.

So now I wait for this beast of a machine. I figured if I can't incorporate it into my live set up, i'll use it at home to record with...and if i hate it, i'll flip it over to someone else who'll put it to good use? :idk:. If it's better than the other series, then I don't see why i won't like it

It also apparently has a few different non-linear settings (gated forward, gated reverse, etc). The Tape echo on the demo below actually really sounds good as well!

here some clips from someone else (I dont know who he is, but I think he posts on TGP...maybe here as well?)

Recording guys tend to crap on the Wedge in discussion forums, but they tend to hate lots of Alesis stuff that works better for guitar than for most instruments. Part of it is probably that the thing looks a bit like the LARC remote for the old, big Lexicon units (480, I think), and newbs listened with their eyes and thought it was that good often enough to start a grudge. Doesn't mean it isn't good for what it is, though. Dual simultaneous engines of Alesis time and modulation effects is nothing to sneeze at for the gaze.

Man that actually sounds really good. I'll have to add that to the GAS list. That would be a fun piece to have around the studio.

Yeah i've been lurking the gear forums! And you're right, the midiverb's get shit on quite a bit  .

I'm only familiar with the nanoverb in terms of rack reverbs (as in, one that I sat down and played with), which sounded okay. I liked the long decay and the washes, but the volume drop and buffer were so horrid, my dry signal sounded like ass.

Every other rack unit I used were in studios when my old bands recorded, but I can't for the life of me remember which ones.

It's comments like these that make me feel better.

I'm feeling anxious that I won't like it

Stupid gear forums have ruined me. Always chasing...

No way dude! I think you're onto something here. I'll definitely be checking out one of these in the future. Could be some very unique sounds in that thing.

As soon as I get it and play around with it, i'll report with details. I'll try to maybe even do my own video (something that I've never done before  ). I'm interested to hear more slowdive/mbv/ride type sounds out of it.

I lurked a lot of gear forms. Quite a few people claiming that its a hidden gem. Almost everyone agrees (even those who hate it) that the wedge is better than the quadraverb GT's, so thats what intrigued me.

I loved that thing when it came out! Recently I became an acquaintance with the designer of this unit, David. He was up in the Portland area for Keith Barr's (Alesis, MXR, DAT tape inventor) funeral. While we were hanging out, David told me a bit about that unit. I told him how I thought it was genius, though I never tried it, cause by the time I had saved up the money for it MF had blown 'em all out. :)
