Best overdrive for me?

I'm looking to buy and overdrive. Every overdrive I've ever used has been very jangly and trebley. I'm looking for and overdrive that just adds dirt without changing my tone. Want an overdrive that can do a little dirt to a lot.

So far I have on my list, And Aardvarks! The Internet, and the Karaoke Party.

you might want to try the Blackout mantra. The EQ on it is super flexible, and someone around here has had them do a low gain mod that they said is the tits.

KLON, what else is there?

Seriously though, I've had good experiences with the Fuck and Monarch recently. The Dr. Scientist Elements looks like it should give you any form of dirt you'd ever want plus The Cleanness boost/EQ, shit that thing must be awesome!

What have you tried? What guitar? What amp?
Have you tried an EQ with whatever you're using now?

Have you tried a Sonic Titan?

This.

Otherwise, if you are looking for a very transparent one: Tim/Timmy by Paul Cochrane.

If you're comfortable with DIY, check out the AMZ Mini Booster. I've built one using the PCBs available from Jack Orman's site, and I've also built a few using the PCBs at General Guitar Gadgets.

It's a powerfully cool circuit. It gooses your guitar's signal, and adds some really cool dirt in guitar-centric frequencies; it's not totally clean, and the grit that is there is very harmonic and musically pleasing. The more you crank it, the more dirt, and the more you boost the first preamp stage of your amp.

I've even been using one to warm up vocals in digital recording. It's definitely a good circuit to have in your tool box!

I've always had a thing for the Subdecay Liquid Sunshine.

I like the Internet a lot, and the gain boost is awesome if you want two OD's in one pedal, or more accurately your normal OD + then a 'solo' gain-boost. Doesn't mess with tone in a bassy or trebley way, more 'harmonic overdrive' at the 'amp boost-low OD' end...

But my Monarch won my keeper OD shootout cuz it's got more chewy gain and the hi and low eq to mess with my tone, which I like. (Spam: why my Internet is in BST.)

You have to play loud with this one... not very good at low volume.

My second choice after the Hydra would be the Catalinbread Formula no.5.
