3 dead amps within in hour

Today at band practice with Nieh every single amp (Ampeg Ba115, Jet City JCA2112RC, and a Fender Frontman 65 that we use for vocals) died within an hour. The Jet City started smoking, the ampeg's volume dropped to very quiet and wont go back up, the Fender did the same but now doesnt make any noise at all.

Im assuming that this is not coincidence because they all died basically together. None of the amps were turned all the way up either, and we'd only been playing for about a half hour. We've had other longer and louder practices with no problems before.

Any help wouold be greatly appreciated.

Power issues, maybe? Are you in a house? If so, were all the amps on the same breaker?

Massive power surge?

Some sort of black magic?

Very strange indeed.

Could be spikes, brownouts, overvoltage, undervoltage, hot ground, dc offset on the ground. Also, one of the amps can throw power onto ground when it goes bad. If the voltage on the ground is high enough, it can go back up into the next amp on the ground wire. Just be happy that no one died. This can happen. You are plugged in and your strings are grounded.

Note to self to budget for good power protection measures.

Makes a power conditioner seem way more appealing.

Check the Fender and Ampeg fuses. The JC may be hurt. Check your breaker or plug a lamp into the outlet to see if it tripped. Better yet if you know where the panel is physically turn off the breaker and turn it back on. If it is a fuse panel that is even more evident that something is wrong. Unscrew the fuse and replace it. I'm not familiar with the Fender or Ampeg models. I don't know if those are solid state or not. If so pray that it is a fuse blown but still connecting.

You may have blown fuses and worse burnt power tubes or worse. I hope not.

This wreaks of surge.

Funny thing is, the basic ones are no different than a good power strip. Big ol' rack enclosure all for show.

Are you playing off the same fuse, same power strip even?

It may just be because nieh is a sexy beast and non-organic things just can't handle the heat coming off his genitals.

Check fuses. Check tubes. Check your ears. You need to diagnose the specific problem. First thing, I'd move to a different outlet and take things one amp at a time. Check fuses, those should pop. If there's a power surge those should go to protect everything else.

the real power conditioners start @ $100 for the strip and $200 for the rack. talkin about monster power. even though I hate monster cable, monster beats, monster laptops etc.... the marketing department is so full of shit. they make straight up false claims. but the engineers that do monster power are using real solid engineering to target the professional market.

monster power conditioners are known to fail. i have personally gone through 4 of them. they just stop working.
i have heard the monster voltage regulator is quite good, but i've never used one.

in my experience only the high priced voltage regulators work. you're better off using a good power strip than one of the low line conditioners.
