saw Dino jr last night

... at The Paradise in Boston. It was quite a show. Totally packed. OFF! opened (Keith Morris from Black Flag / Circle Jerks w/ guys from Redd Kross, Burning Brides & one other great band I can't remember) - they were officially all killer no filler. Then Rollins interviewed Dino jr onstage, which was simultaneously weird & great. Then Dino melted everyone's faces with a couple of new songs, and Bug in its entirety.
A couple of observations:
1) I am officially part of a nostalgia-targeted generation. This feels odd, but I can live with it. I swear, it was like traveling back to 1994 but everyone's hair was shorter & gut was bigger.
2) I appreciate Lou's role in Dino jr so much more now. Sure, J shreds and is awesome and all that, but Lou was bouncing around like a muppet, slamming the hell out of that Rickenbacker. I'd say that about 85 - 90% of his basslines where all chords. Lou in Dino jr is a completely different beast than Lou in Sebadoh (and don't get me wrong, I love me some Sebadoh). He was laying down a layer of sludgy doom like nobody's business.

Oh damn man, that sounds awesome! Big Keith Morris fan here.... Johnny Bob Goldstein FTW! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to see if those fools are coming down here!
Edit: Playing here tonight! But I can't go.

totally agree. Bakesale is one of my favorite albums ever. But Lou cranks out some gnarly fuzz on those first few(and last 2) Dino Jr. albums.
I had the pleasure of catching Dinosaur Jr. back in 93ish. So fuckin' good,so fuckin' LOUD

I am extremely jealous of just this. I would have LOVED to see OFF! Keith Morris was my favorite Black Flag vocalist and Rollins is just fantastic.

I would go to see OFF! again at the drop of a hat. Keith gave a masterclass in how to control a stage without jumping around. Seriously, he's the kind of frontman who could stand stock-still and still have everyone's eyes on him the whole damn show.
Of course, a whole OFF! show would probably run about 20 minutes for about as many songs, but hey...

This interests me. As I never noticed too much bass chord work on Farm. Maybe I'm not listening hard enough.

I wonder if it's something he only does live, to fill out the space.

I saw them at a electric picnic a few years ago and they were pretty awful, plenty of sound problems and the crowd atmosphere was shite. I'd love to see them at a non festival gig though.

Lucky! I've seen Dino Jr. with Lou once and keep hoping they'll come back thru my area again some time fairly soon.
I'd follow 'em like a jam band if I could.
Like many here, You're Living All Over Me was my gateway to fuzz obsession.

I've probably seen them 4 times in the past 2 and a halfish years, and I still don't like Lou. Pretty sure the money offer to get the original trio together again is the only reason Lou is still around. He's just such a cock. I can totally understand why someone would want to throw him out of a band and belittle him for years. Also, I can't help but to think every sebadoh song was written about J. That last part probably isn't true, but I still like to humor the idea.
