Cocteaus / Robin Guthrie's solo stuff
Augustin Barrios
Ry Cooder and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt
The Orb + Robert Fripp
The Blue Nile / Paul Buchanan
God is an Astronaut
Michael Manring
Sheila Chandra
Wes Montgomery
Skip James
Mississippi John Hurt
These Wonderful Evils
Bill Frisell
Billie Holiday
Debbashish Bhattacharya
Paul Galbraith (classical guitarist -- amazing)
John Coltrane
Lush
...depends what you're into.
I used to like to listen to Tangerine Dream at night in the lab (Stratosfear, Canyon Dreams, Tangram ... stay away from the TJ Hooker them music or whatever the fuck that was) -- the patterns are good for genome mapping.

Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2
Eno/Lanois/Lanois Apollo
Boards of Canada The Campfire Headphase
Landing Oceanless
anything by Windy and Carl
Eno On Land
Gavin Bryars Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet (the original version on Obscure b/w Sinking of the Titanic, NOT the extended multi-movement version with Tom Waits)
Steve Reich Music for Eighteen Musicians
Can Future Days
there's a bunch of other stuff i can't remember right now...it's 3AM here, and i'm disinclined to dig through the CD shelves.

most anything by World's End Girlfriend, but you could start with the Air Doll soundtrack.
the Jazz & Milk Breaks collections
Aus's album "Curveland"
Download the EVE Online OST if you like ultra spacey ambient music.
Hammock's album "Kenotic" is fantastic. Also amazingly good as a sleep aid.
YMCK if Japanese 8-bit jazz is your thing.

If you like this, also check out Owen; he was in this band and rights pretty laid back stuff.

The Boris album "Flood". The "waves cresting above the city" five minutes into Part III may or may not be relaxing to you, but I can fall asleep to it
