basically i was thinking "what if you made pop music... with FREE JAZZ"

so now i'm pretty much layering things over top of each other in the key of G (mostly) and seeing what happens. no set time signature or chord progression. just melody on top of melody with a 8-bit percussion thingy underneath.

i try stuff like that all the time and fail miserably

You definitely want a sax or two, perhaps a flute, too. Wish I could help.
