I've been getting into the sound of Hendrix, Blue Cheer and Cream and suddenly i'm interested in checking out how to reproduce the sound with the actual pedals, or at least studying them. Fuzzface, Uni-vibe, Octavia, Maestro stuff, Echoplex..can you guys help me make a good, detailed (or non detailed) list of all the pedals and effects that were in use in the 60's and early 70's? Any contribution would help, What guitar players used what, and pictures of guitar dudes rockin' pedals in the 60's would also rule. I have a giant milk crate filled with old Guitar Player magazines - I need to dig it out of the basement and run through them.
And man, there's some seriously cool pedals on ebay, and with serious prices to match.

I hear that Blue Cheer used a fuzz face but I wouldn't take that as gospel. Heres a bunch of stuff on Cream too:

Blue Cheer, Hendrix = Fuzz Face.
Cream? Clapton says he didn't use anything but a wah...
Old school:
Maestro FZ-1
Tone Bender MkI (Jeff Beck/Yardbirds-Heart Full of Soul; Led Zeppelin I), MkII (Jimmy Page), MkIII (Jeff Beck again, also Jimmy Page)
Vox 2-trannie Tone Bender: The Doors, The Stooges
Fuzzrite - Iron Butterfly, Davie Allen, TheStooges
Fuzz face - everybody
Super Fuzz - The Who Live at Leeds
Those are the basics

(and not to dig up ye olde flavour of the month, but):
Burns Buzzaround=Rob't Fripp in '69
Marshall Supa Fuzz (TB MK II variant)==Justin Hayward before and after 1970 (though he reputedly used a rare amp-top version)

DiscoFreq's Effects Database is a handy tool...just plug a few of the ones mentioned in the search bar and you can see any related fuzzes past and present
