Casters?

I keep breaking the casters off of my cabs. Currently, out of the eight I'm supposed to have on two cabs, I have five. Anybody got any good suggestions for not shitty casters?

Man, don't get me started on casters...
When I bought my JC 120 it didn't have casters, but the guy said he'd sell me the travel case for $40. I didn't have the extra cash and carrying that thing fucking sucks.

So, get wheeled travel case. You could probably commission someone to make just the bottom part.

The ghetto alternative would be one of those wheeled milk crate carrier things with some wood bolted across the top.

I'd love to get a travel case, but the thing is, these are just big bass cabs we're talking about here. One of which is an old Sunn 2X15. So, cases don't exist.

Hawt. Get that shit custom!

I used to jack big versions of these from the elementary school where I used to live to roll around on. They could support 2 people jumping on them, so an amp probably wouldn't be a problem.

I'd think casters will keep breaking because all the pressure is being put on those 4 little pieces of metal. :idk:

Yeah, this is like the second set (full set of four) of casters I've been through on this Sunn cab. And, then, the completely metal caster on my 1X15 broke today. I just can't win.

I'll look around for one of those.

Oh, I understand how you feel. But, that's what drummers are for.

Unless your drummer is 100 pounds and you're in a 3 piece and the guitarist gets slated to carry a fucking 8x10 ampeg up and down stairs to and to every show. Fucking mauerkraut.

Hahahahahahahaha. Thankfully, I've got two relatively strong drummers in my band. :yay:

No one ever helps me carry my gear. You bassists should sack up and start A playing smaller gear or B higher Asian midgets to carry your shit.

Casters are always hit or miss with me. I'd go to your local home improvement store and find the biggest, heaviest duty casters they have and either build something for your cab to sit on or drill those babies into the cab.

You could also do what I did and get the V-Cart Solo from Gruv Gear (found at http://www.gruvgear.com). It supports up to 500 lbs and the tilt-back function is pretty awesome.

When I went to the Emperor shop to pick up cabs, those guys built little carts similar to that pictured and moved huge stacks around with ease. With those large size casters, you might get a little more life out of 'em before they go breaking...

I shake those clubs, dude. Remember when you were all about that 6x12? Yeah. Try no wheels or casters on that bitch. Honestly the tube heads are just as bad, so heavy and awkward.

Bottom line, if it sounds awesome, carry it.

As far as help, I don't know if there is a remedy. I use the dolly type system, and I've had one break, but that isn't bad for using it for nearly 3 or 4 years pretty actively. Check out http://www.fliptops.net for that. They have solidly built replacements. But yeah those Sunn 2x15 with casters are awkward. Fuck a swivel. MOD IT TO DOLLY STYLE!
