Hey, all you dudes who gig with tons of cabs onstage...

What happens with the sound man (if there is one)? Do you get grief about it all the time? Do they turn you down?
Is it ever like "hey man the 300 decibels is our style so please don't cramp it" and he's all "yeah, that's cool"

I basically just say "Mic it, and we'll be fine", and if they give me grief, I just play anyway. It's not like I won't be heard or anything. One time, I had my stuff set up, and the sound guy was like "Alright, I've got the mic set, and I just need you to play a bit to check the level". I played a bit, and he waved me down and said "Well, we don't need to mic it". It was like at a 500 seat theater, so I didn't believe him until one of the earlier bands borrowed my amp, and I realized that it was the only thing that was heard well because it wasn't being mixed by the sound guy.
So, it's usually whatever. I rarely ever turn down, because I've got two drummers in the band, and regardless of what I'm doing, they're always much louder.

Tell them to mic your shit and mix it in. Most dudes are cool about it.
If not, turn up all the way and make their eardrums bleed

I'd rather not mic my stuff when I can. I trust myself more than a sound guy.
