Ok, so I know I was conducting a topic over the hot rod deluxe, but I decided to pass on it . Instead my dad is going to pick up a Princeton reverb '65 that I found near my home via craigslist. It is in tip top shape and belonged to an older guy who didn't us it much. I got it for $175, but wondering what you thought about them since I won't get to play it until I get back from school.

I've played one at a store before and really liked. Has those great fender cleans. You got a hell of a deal, so even if you don't like it you can flip it for a few hundred bucks profit.

Some of the reissues apparently have an oscillation issue. Fixable, IIRC, but I don't know the details. I would have hit that. Of the blackface reissues, that one seems to have gotten some of the most love online so far as I've seen.

oh, it's a reissue? still, that's a sick deal for a really nice small amp. the ones i've tried sound remarkably like the silverface Princeton i caned in the 1980s. for $175 i would pull the cash out of my credit card as fast as i could get to the bank.

You should feel guilty for taking advantage of that old guy who didn't use it much.

$175? damn! are you sure its not the solid state Fender Princeton 65 though for that price? (as opposed to the 65' Princeton, it makes googling the former a nightmare). That's still a great amp though, it's what I've got at the moment

I need to try one of these. For $1200, though, I'd get a 65amps Lil' Elvis or Tupelo in head form.

Yeah, if it's the SS Princeton with two 10"s, I'd be less psyched.

you can find them for well less than $1200. the thing is, you can find silverface Princetons for similar prices that are P2P wired and KILL.

I do dig the sound.
Princeton (no reverb) is "clean all the way up the dial" according to this video's comments:

Princeton Reverb has a great overdriven sound:

I think I'm in love with that.
Really great with a tubescreamer (boo tubescreamer, I know) @ about 1:30 in this video, great video overall:

Still cost $800-1200 for the 68-70s Princeton Reverbs, according to Guitar Center's stock.

Yea the guy told me on the phone it was a tube amp, and the ad said '65 Princeton teeth reissue . When my dad went to get it, he saw it was in deed a solid state and thanked the guy for the 2 hour ride. Hot rod it will be.

I was in a music shop today and a guy came to get repairs on a blackface pre-cbs princeton (no reverb, tho) which he had got at a yard sale for 10 bucks...

Some people have all the luck! I've never found anything worth buying at a garage sale, which leads me to go to less of them, not more.
