Now, I dunno about YOU guys, but the vagueness and lower price point sure ain't enough to commit me. So I go to facebook.
[discussion="comments"]
me: ...what exactly IS this Manx fuzz?
Catalinbread Effects: It is an AWESOME!
me: That don't tell me squat. Deets!
me: Catalinbread's new campaign strategy: "BUY THIS, IT'S AWESOME"
Catalinbread Effects: It works, Eric.
Catalinbread Effects: Because WE DELIVER.
[/discussion]

i guess for some folks arbitrary and annoying works as a marketing strategy. interestingly, i don't really find most of the stuff produced by the most prominent attitudinalists all that intriguing. go figure.
i'm not sure if the text message is appalling or brilliant.

I like Catalinbread's pedals that I've played, but from what I've seen of their online presence, they kinda seem like dicks.

I don't really get that impression. They've been very helpful and nice, to me at least.
Anyways, there are tons of muffs out there so I don't want to just buy this without hearing more about it, even if its super cheap right now. Although I admit, I'm tempted!

Nick from Catalinbread had a pretty intense flameout here a while back. Basically accusing other builders of copying him and shit. Definitely struck me as a dick.

Oh yeah! I remember reading about that. I guess I know nothing of the situation and I'm a fairly new poster so

Nic was a bit :tinfoilhat: in his time here but devi was baiting him hard, those two seem to troll the shit out of each other.
I think it's pretty cool to knock $60 off the price since nobody has heard it yet
Cbread isn't a one-man shop (or a one-man shop with robots), they've got a whole team of nice folks who churn out this stuff, I can't imagine the profits are very high at these prices.
Plus they are holding a PDX brodown with free bierce tonight for anyone who preordered one (or anyone who wants to hang out)

Don't be a pansy and just buy that pedal.

If Ryan, or Tom, or Aen were to release a new pedal for nearly 40% off everyone would be running out of the room to go change their pants and grab their wallets. Catalinbread makes solid pedals. Sure it's a Muff, but it's going to be different. You're going to get a lot more tonal control without that Muff tone stack. Now you can just crank the lowz for extra heavy brootz!!!

I don't get that either. All my interactions have been extremely pleasant. As to the big fallout with Nick here, just remember that Devi has the ability to bring the worst out of anyone. I still see interactions every once in a while between the two of them that gets a bit :facepalmlulz:
I don't know what it is about Zach's and the gear industry, but if you want to know what real dickish online presence looks like, check out
this guy.

This is a marketing strategy I dig. Pay a low introductory price, then meet up at the bar to have beers/pick up pedal, well planned! I'm interested to hear how it sounds.
I was a little turned off seeing Nick act like a total cocksmoker in one particular online feud with a respected ILF builder, however, I've never had any bad interactions and they seem to be slapping a muzzle on the frequent online outbursts. It's easy to get worked up on the interwebz.

zachary guitars is dead, as in he died. I always thought he was a condescending prick ripping on the klon and saying that the entire string making industry is wrong and he is right. BUT, in reality, he is a prick but also a genius. string manufacturers actually read his site and learned from it. they now make strings with his designs! and the anti-klon he built is actually more transparent than any other klonish effect I've seen or heard. so lets not rip on genius dead people even if they are pricks.
oh and catalinbread would not return my email about product questions or demos when I was running a blog 2 years ago. so either he doesn't care to promote his products or thinks im a joke. I do love the perseus, DLS and the paradeliololoedillia or whatever.

I pulled the trigger, seeing as I just spent 190 for my Tall Font Russian that I love, I figured I could buy this for a tryout and flip it if I don't like it.
