What's the best Green russian muff out there? Would you go Wren and Cuff tall font russian, Older Stomp Underfoot GRM, or something else? (besides the ever talked about hoof and musket) :animal:

i did a search and i was surprised there weren't a lot of posts about russian green muff alternatives here. Anyway I found this clip of the old STF and it sounded amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJm1ng7WBnI  I don't think they make them anymore though. I've heard great things about the tall font though and i was just wondering what else was out there.

I'd hunt around for a real tall font Russian muff. Those things are great.

There's plenty of green muff love here, I'm sure most people here have some form of green muff on their board.

Are you looking at strictly traditional green muff clones? There are plenty of great tweaked/altered versions (many by builders here).
The SUF is cool, the civil war he makes is basically a green russian.

Ya but the civil war is much smoother right? Wren and cuff still makes them im pretty sure for like $185. As for what im looking for... lol i wouldn't know ive never played a green muff so id probably be good with any of them. Just seeing what models are highly respected around here and what people like and dont.

what is the tonal difference compared to the newer, black russian muffs?

The blackout effectors musket is a green muff that is very modern/saturated sounding...popular with the doom/sludge crowds
The earthquaker devices hoof is a gritty si/ge hybrid green muff, can do some great OD-like stuff as well. It can hang with a variety of styles.
The Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder is also green based, very stoner-rock kinda vibe imo

Those 3 are really popular, partially because the builders are hosted here...but mostly because they

Rather than start a new thread to ask this question, I'm gonna hijack this one. Anyone know any Op Amp Muff clones other than the Stomp Under Foot Pumpkin Pi? And has anyone played the Pumpkin Pi? Thoughts?

Green muff here for a good price -- a bit shabby but still: http://stompboxes.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9570

If you want an op amp muff (man, you couldn't give those away until Billy Corgan published that pic of his ... ), hunt up an old Little Big Muff -- they were the full size muff board in a smaller box with resistors across the pads instead of pots so sustain and tone were preset (with a switch for two preset tones, both of which were kinda crappy). Easy to mod to a full opamp muff. They're not too expensive either.
I think the Euthymia ICBM is an opamp muff? Pretty sure I saw John Lyons with one too...

Two of the builders over on Shortscale do 'em.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the current bass big muff just a slightly tweaked green muff?
