Sunn Sonaro

Post by Fuzzy Picklez »

Does anyone know anything about these particular models?
One of them popped up on Craigslist and I've sent the guy an e-mail but I can't find much info on 'em.
I figured since so many of you guys use Sunn stuff you could chime in.

If it helps/matters, I play guitar. He's asking $500, but I might try to trade him a bunch of stuff/talk him down a bit.
Is one of us being unreasonable? :idk:

Oh yeah, it's a head from 69. Again, if that makes a difference.

Wouldn't hurt to try talking him down, but either way, if you've got the money I say go for it. Picked up a 200s last month for about the same price. I think the Sonaro, Sorado, Solarus, 190, 200s, etc are VERY similar, if not the same in some cases.

Thanks man.
I'm only concerned because I'm working part time right now and will have to be cheap about everything else until my next pay cheque a bit to get this. Not a big deal though, I'm still living at home, so there shouldn't be any emergency expenses.

Alright so, basically he doesn't want trades but is flexible on the price.
I might be able to swing this.

Dude get him down on the price and jump. Worse comes to worse it will be a breeze to re-sell.

I get confused about the naming, but agree the schematics of all of those appear to be the same or very close.

I'm pretty sure that the different names signified various cabinets they were paired with.

If it is like or the same as a 200s then it will be fucking loud and awesome and supper resonsive, that is what a 200s is like anyway.

A friend of mine got one about 5 years ago and I've wanted one ever since. The time was right. :!!!:

This, plus some have different output tubes. Around that era, they all were around the same wattage(except the 2000s) and they all had absolutely gargantuan transformers. Completely arbitrary naming schemes are pretty cool though.

That's right, though in some cases I think the tubes changed from year to year also. Oh 2000s...the mac daddy.

I'm still mad about the time I didn't buy a 2000s on CL for $500.

He hasn't responded in a few days, but the ad is still up.
I didn't even low ball him. I just asked if the price was flexible, and he said yes.
I asked him the best he could do was when I could pick it up and he disappeared.
:?: :idk:

I'm going to send another e-mail tomorrow if I don't get a response.

Cool here is some Sunn info: http://www.richbriere.com/Sunn_Shack_2.htm

I think $500 is a good starting point. If all the tubes, caps, pots etc. don't need any work it's a fair price. If it looks like it's going to need a little work I'd offer $400 and probably settle for somewhere in between.

Hopefully it'll be on the "Let's see your Amp!" thread soon. :thumb:

He says it got new tubes so that's a plus.
Thanks for the link man! That's pretty helpful.
Also, I hope so.
