I finally found one of those and its a pretty damn awesome pedal, its like mixing the thick heavy sound the skreddy big muff style pedals can do with the crazy parts of a Lastgasp Fuzz or a Fuzz Factory. Pretty damn awesome for a stock pedal and its sad to see that these are discontinued... you can controll the pitch of the oscillation with the volume knob (über awesome) and tweak the shit out of this baby...

What's even sadder than it being discontinued is that people are now selling them for ridiculous prices

I love the Ultra Fuzz so much and I can't believe they're discontinued, they sound so nice! It's a great overdrive/distortion along with the crazy oscillation and heavy gated fuzz, pity they're way complicated and nobody's traced one for cloning. Since I tried my friend's a few months ago I've been scouting for them used for a reasonable price all the time, but they're all over £100 or something...

Definitely a really good pedal for $60 when I bought it new. Mess with lower gain settings, especially with the gate and oscillation knobs. Lots of unique textures in there. And try it with different guitars/pickups -- I think some pickups tickle it better than others.

The marketing stuff says its true bypass. It isn't. It probably has one of the better buffers you'll encounter, though, so don't sweat tone degradation. I run a true-bypass silicon Fuzz Face in front and they stack really well and the oscillation stuff still works dandy. The oscillation does not come through as well with active pickups or behind a buffered pedal. (If my Crybaby worked, I'd probably run it after the Zoom.)

IMO, it has always behaved distinctively rather than having a distinctive sound. Which is good to the extent that you sound like you rather than like your pedal. Placement with the rest of your rig is important for how the pedal and your other gear will behave.

That's why I'm glad I got the chance to try out a friend's for a week, I've heard before it's a bit picky and I'd hate to buy one and have it just not work. Sounds totally badass with my guitar and amp, as long as it didn't have a buffer in front, which kinda kills it.
