I've been noticing that you can get old 90's samplers like the Akai S20, Yamaha SU10, and Roland MS-1 for around $100 these days. I already have a SP-404sx.
Anybody using any of these? Any reason to buy something like one of these in this day and age?

There was an interview with Hank Shocklee of the Bomb Squad (lots of Public Enemy sound) in an old Tape Op magazine where he was talking about a lot of old school samplers having their own cool things going. Sometimes the 12 bit stuff would sound more killer than you would expect looking back. The analog section was sometimes primo, much better than standard stuff nowadays. That and there's always the creative bonus of having limitations and constraints imposed. If the stuff works and is cheap, it can be worth a try.
