Sounds great right now, want to make it more evil, and buttoned down.
Appreciate any help.
Right now it is in an old Memory boy case so I have room for switches and things of that nature.
2 questions:
1. If I replace the Diode with an LED it will change clipping right? I can do 2 on a switch if I am not mistaken. (it's Socketed so I am ready to party!!)
2. If I replace the resistor with a pot it will act as a Starve control right??
Thanks for the input
OH, just got the enclosure back today from my good pal Krispy, it is massive and awesome, pic now attached

Yes to both your questions. You could also install the diode and the LED on a SPDT or DPDT (probably easier on the DPDT) to switch between them. Or you can just figure out which one you like the clipping of better and leave it in the socket.
I recently found this page with a bunch of articles on the theory/practice of building pedals, basically what each component does. It might be of use to you.

1) Yip you're right. The lower the diodes Vf(forward voltage drop), the "fuzzier" it will get. LEDs have a high Vf and that gives you more of a tame distortion. Germanium or Schottky diodes give you the fuzziest sound. Silicon diodes give you somewhere in between. It works that way because the lower the voltage drop the more of your signal gets cut to ground, what you end up with is something very close to the noise floor and so it sounds "fuzzy.

2) What schem are you using? I'm not sure but sounds right.
haha two answers at the same time

we got some flooding in my basement last fall and I had all my gear up on a storage bin and the bin floated away and My pedal board was submerged, I managed to take apart and dry out and save everything but the memory boy and a PH-3
