it seems like a lot of psychedelic music is sort of chill or upbeat. i don't want that. i want stuff that feels like blowing up while freaking out on shrooms in a dark forest on an remote island surrounded by like, dragons or some shit. kinda like tracks like worm mountain, or silver trembling hands from embryonic, for lack of better descriptors?

How dark? Just a pinch of dark shades to it or, like, blatantly nihilistic or occult? Psychedelic as in the late 60's early 70's sense?

all above carry heavy and dark sense of psychedelia to them though they are sometimes considered early progressive stuff. Don't let it alarm You off, if You're not into progressive rock - these have NOTHING to do with the doodlig of the later progressive rock/power metal style bands.

the progressive rock icons but with a distinctly darker undertone, especially the first two King Crimson albums are still pretty much about plain psychedelia.

@bassus, it's all about the 70s and later psychedelia. i like what's going on in neo psychedelic music a lot. but i still have no clue what technically makes psychedelic music, i don't think anyone has a semi concrete definition though. i'm not a fan of metal or heavier music usually but i might be able to get to it. i think i'm looking for stuff from all across the board. occult music would be cool, i imagine it being like, vaguely folky (i'm not sure why ) but disgusting and disturbing.

@gearmond: i know what you mean. it's hard to know what bands are psychedelic when there's no real definition of what exactly that means. i totally should've looked more into the krautrock scene, because i fucking love the soft machine and i think they were vaguely connected iirc...

download embryonic for sure. a lot of the tracks have a similar feel, my favorites being watching the planets, silver trembling hands, the ego's last stand, the sparrow looks up at the machine, etc. i don't think the flaming lips other stuff sounds that much like embryonic does. embryonic might be the best lips album, imo

and i honestly think that some of the tracks on embryonic are really similar to the second half of mgmt's oracular spectacular, so listen to future reflections, of birds moons and monsters, and the handshake while you're at it. future reflections is probably one of my favorite songs like, ever.
