Potentiometer and Resistor questions.

Post by nieh »

Building my first fuzz pedal and I have everything picked out except for Pots and resistors.

1. What value of pots should I get for a volume and gain knobs: http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merch ... y_Code=POT

2. What kind of resistors should I get for the circuit? http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merch ... y_Code=RES

3. What value resistor should I use for the LED?

1. What circuit?

2. Metal film is quieter and more accurate.

3. 4.7K is a good standard. You might want to go a little higher if you're using a water-clear LED, as they are super-bright.

I don't really have a specific circuit. I'm basing the build off of a Crush Fuzz and I'm just going to swap out different values to get some different sounds. And I just bought a large assortment of metal film resistors.

100kA or 10kA (logarithmic) is kinda standard for a volume pot. Umm it really depends on the circuit for anything else though?

EDIT if you want to experiment from the original circuit..what you could do is whatever pot size is stock, go the next one up. If it turns out being horrible put a resistor in parallel to get back to the stock pots value. Deceasing a pot size won't give you any more range. But maybe just buy a few different pots?
