I'm thinking about buying a Kaoss Pad 3 to use it as a guitar effect/sampler but I can't decide if it's a good idea or not....

I'm clearly not after authenticity or vintage sounds of course. The idea is to have all the "special" effects that I don't have yet (Ring Mod etc...) in one box. I already have my basic tones, what I need is something to push things a bit further...

I'm also a bit worried about level or connection issues I may have to integrate it on my pedalboard. (how to wire it, will I need something else to accomodate the difference of input and output level ? etc..)

All this to say: If you already tried a Kaoss Pad on guitar, I'll be glad to hear your experience...

I've been thinking about this too....

I've got a true bypass loop with clean blend and I think if I do this I will put the Kaoss Pad in that so it can buffer the signal before and after it hits it, I have a means built in to adjust the level....and I can blend in some direct signal if I need to.....not sure if that is necesarry or if it would make it sound better but that is personally how I would approach it.

But of course I don't have one yet....so that is just from thinking about how best to implement rather than personal experience.

The KP3 sounds like it does a bit too much to be stuck in a guitar all the time for me.

I'm playin my acoustic guitar through two Kaoss Pads 2/3 right now... Just plug in the mic input with a 1/4 inch and rock out...

I don't think the interface is very good for controlling the kp3 and playing (guitar or anything else) at the same time.

If you listen a bit, you' ll see I have no concern about "too much" and authentic guitar sounds.

I'm working with live-looping so yes, for what I do, it would work.
My pedalboard is actually splitted in 2: I have one small at my feet and one on a small table at my right so I can tweak the knobs with hands. (I "play" the pedals almost as much as I play guitar) If I buy a Kaoss pad it would go there.
And the Kaoss pad has this function that records finger movements... I'd make possible that I first select an effect, record a movement and then play guitar through the Kaoss Pad..

I thought about doing it like that too... but there are lots of other ways as far as I'm concerned.
For example: I have no amp. I'm going through a Sansamp Liverpool pedal and then straight into the soundcard of my laptop so I guess for me, another way to use the Kaoss would be to put it at the very end, after the Sansamp ! Maybe it would help solving the level or impedance issue if any ?
And doing it this way, and at condition that I can use the line input for the guitar, would allow me to use the mic input for ... a microphone.

you know I look at guitars set up like this and I think that it could be interesting to velcro a KP3 or a mini-kp to that spot on the guitar....appropriate connections.... and you have a quick and dirty version of that.

OMG U meenz like Matt Bellamy from Muse!11!1!111!!11!!1!

I've seen Nels Cline using one of these live.....I think he uses it to process loops he makes with his sixteen second looper. I'm trying to remember if I ever saw him manipulating it as he was playing his guitar.

Yes I think he uses it like this.

I found one second hand for cheap so I think I'll buy one..

I did it, I bought a Kaoss pad 2 because I've read some not so good reviews about the 3 and it was cheaper.

Shoulda got a 3 cause the 2's only got two sample pads and you can do hella more with the 3... Anyway I've posted before I've got all the Kaoss Pads and they're all different... The KP3 can play say sample 1 that has 8 parts, well you can play any number of those parts, how 'bout 1,3,5,7 and then sample that to pad 2, play sample 1 again with parts 2,3,6,8 and sample that to pad 3 then play all three with an effect and sample that to pad 4 and start over... Just sayin...
