ok, i've finally gotten all the parts to make my supa fuzz. i'm trying to figure out what leads from the transistors correspond to the e b and c on this layout:

http://www.pigeonfx.com/layouts/layoutmsf.html

my transistors are oc75s from mammoth electronics. only markings on them are 'oc75' and ' njs1045'.. to figure out the ebc i found this: http://www.kilowattclassroom.com/Archive/AN0007.pdf but i also discovered my multimeter doesn't have a diode test mode

so how do i figure this out? thanks a lot for any help

Scroll down. It's the TO-1 package.

It wasn't cheap, but I am so glad I bought this thing:

Once I realized this hobby wasn't going away any time soon, I decided to give myself a break. If you can swing the money, you'll reach for this thing all the time.

thanks for this.. i don't think i can swing the money now but you're right haha, i just started but this hobby won't be going away. i'll definitely invest once i can.

much thanks to you both!

Those DCA55 Peak meters are soooooooo useful, they are a real must have if your going to be dealing with germanium in mid to large volume.

Though the R.G. Keen tester is really good if want to DIY http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/ffselect.htm

harbor-freight has a very cheap-ass multimeter that can test trannies.

$4, and not bad at all

As mentioned, a DMM with a transistor gain test function is idea for verifying the pinout of a transistor.

Generally though, the tab denotes the emitter and the base will be in the middle. Occasionally, the base is on the outer edge and the collector is in the center. Always google the datasheet of the transistor you are working with. :)

But I don't think at that price it would measures the leakage of a transistor, so would only be good for silicon transistors....... germanium is a whole other kettle of fish, as you have to take into account the leakage or you end up with total skewed Hfe measurement using just a DMM, and trying to make a pedal like the supa fuzz with 3x OC75 without a clue about the true Hfe is pure luck if you get anything sounding remotely authentic, let alone nice.

So a cheap DMM my be ok for checking pin out, but why spend that money, when the info is free on the data sheet.......save up £30 and get a Peak!

Well, that certainly is ONE way to go.

good point. I was only addressing his ebc question.
