Hey Boston area pedal fiends!
I'll be hosting a "Sound Tasting" tomorrow from 1pm to 3pm in the belly of a former whoopie pie factory.

New, used and vintage effects for sale but more importantly available to be test driven at proper rock & roll volumes.

Drop a line if interested.

Sound Tasting? Much like a wine tasting but with musical gear instead of fermented grapes. This is chance to experiment or "taste" an assortment of effects in a relaxed setting. A number of instruments and amp options are provided so each person can see and hear what the devices are capable of as it pertains to his or her style.

Chicago Iron*Maxon*EarthQuaker Devices*Blackout Effectors and more!

Andy from Studio Eight and AKAVALVE will be on hand to offer advice on tube amp maintenance and modification.

I so wish I could go to one of these. Technically it's not that far, but my schedule just never seems to work out. Alas. Maybe we could have you down to PVD sometime...

Providence is a cool city for sure. If there is a space and enough pedal junkies we would totally consider a road trip!

Get something together in Western Mass and I'm there. I've got some fun stuff to bring, too.

Hmmmm... interesting. Now, you guys sell the pedals too, right? If it was purely a "tasting," there are a couple of local stores that might be interested in getting in on it, but the retailers hanging with retailers dynamic could be difficult to navigate. Hmmmm... I will have to ponder this deeply. I'm sure there's ways.

There is a good chance we'll have a booth at the Central MA Guitar Convention this April in Fitchburg. More deets to follow...

Yup, we sell pedals. Currently the only Blackout Effector and EarthQuaker Dealer in Boston.

I started the shop partly because the kind of effects I gravitate towards aren't always well represented in my area and partly as a reaction to the inability to try out a pedal the way I intended to use it. When you use pedals as texture it is key to use an amp and guitar as close to your personal set-up at volumes closer to real life. Just as important is not having the sales person make you feel like a freak because you want try a fuzz or delay with your circuit bent speak n' spell!

My only concern heading down to Providence is stepping in on another shop's turf. Esp. good people like the B-Sharp folks!

Yeah, I completely understand. That's awesome that you know B-Sharp - they're good peeps indeed. I'm trying to get them to carry more out-there stuff, esp. from ILF builders. Hey - I talked them into a Sea Machine! It's always worth a shot.

Providence needs some kind of out-there-fuzz summit. We've got the freaks, we just need the fuzz.

When I say Western Mass, I actually mean walking distance to my house in Northampton.

Northampton sure is a nice town. I've heard Downtown Sounds is a great spot.

Downtown Sounds is alright. They'll leave you alone if that's what you want or they'll talk to you.
They charge MSRP for everything and don't have anything interesting, though.

Northampton's fun.
