Extension Cab Question

I have the Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10 not the new one that just came out and an unused bass cab that I'm thinking of using as an extension cab. The bass cab is a crate but not sure of the model its 400 watts and I'm 99% positive that it is 8ohms from what i found on google. Everything I found said that the extension cab can be switchable from 4ohms to 8ohms I tried it out tonight for a few and it worked fine, but im more worried of damaging the Fender, the bass cab i bought used and have no worry about damaging it. Is there an actual switch in the fender or is it just an automatic thing and is there any chance of damaging the Fender trying to do this. Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Don't use a 4 ohm. The extension out on these fenders is parallel so you'd be running at half of your lowest impedance run your main cab and an 8 ohm extension and you'll be running at a safe 4 ohm level. I have the same amp it's fun running it with a2x15 though impractical for gigging

tuffteef it started as no real reason except my other guitarist is driving to Buffalo today to pick up a 6x12 Emperor cab from Andy Williams from Every Time I Die. He put on twitter a few days ago that he was selling four for $800 each so he jumped on the chance. So at practice last night we used my Deville with my old bass cab and a 4x12 Marshall that our friend in the other band that practices in the same spot uses. The bass cab while were not playing any louder gives it some more low end because of the depth of the cab and fullness to the sound I feel. I would have ideally been able to use a 2x12 or a 4x12 but I dont have the money to pick up another cab since were trying to record and press a release in a few weeks and get a van since between us well now have a 4x15 sunn that my bassist has the 6x12 emperor and my deville and 4x10 cab. Thanks Astricii the cab is 8 ohms so i should be good I could even bring my Lunchbox amp to the practice space and run my rig in stereo now.
