there's a thread in general about it, but we need one in music too.
opinions?!?
i thought it was amazing as an album but just great as a radiohead album. but my favorite track is morning mr magpie, closely tied with little by little which is closely tied with seperator. loving the percussion on the album though, so much.

I've listened to it seven times now... I love the atmosphere. I've read alot of the earliy reviews and it seems that this album is split. Commenters either love it or hate it. Yet, it's been out for one day. And it's Radiohead! This album is not a drastic change like OK Computer or Kid A. It seems like Radiohead mashed Kid A electronics and In Rainbows positive vibe and atmosphere together. These songs, to me, don't sound like B sides. One of the rumors about this is that there is more content yet to be released because of 2 vinyls in the deluxe edition and the relativly short track list. Also the fact that in the last song, Separator, the lyric "If you think this is over, then you're wrong". However, I feel as though there are undertones of disappointment from this hope that there is more to come. I would love for more content because it's Radiohead and I've been looking for any new news for what they were to do next for two years which would have given plenty of time for more than 37 minutes, but this theory of there being more content is somewhat problematic. On one hand, if you are already disappointed with the tracks and in keeping with the album's style similar tracks are released, what makes you think that you will be happy with the new ones? Or if you like this style that Radiohead took, would the album feel too bloated?
I personally love what Radiohead has done here. There is alot of subtlety in the atmosphere, like, it's really musically dense. Less subtle are the glitched out drums which I think the album is focused around all while Thom sings sweeter than ever before. This album slowly reveals itself yet is over before you know it.

Liking the album a lot so far. Usually there's some songs that I don't care for and skip but this album doesn't have that for me. The flip side is that there's not a song I've wanted to repeat endlessly either, though that might come later. A tad disappointed with the length of it, 8 tracks at 37 minutes isn't much, they could've easily added These are my twisted words to this.
As far as the additional tracks on the Newspaper thing, that would be awesome but I'm not counting on it. Also, the drummer did put out a solo album followed by a tour.

i hope you're right, amg that would be awesome. i bet if they release new content it would probably be a totally different style. it would make more sense that way, at least to me.

I was a little surprised when amnesiac came out like 2 months after kid A. I was all WTF? I heard they used a mutator on kid A. its an obscure peice of gear for sure. more of a synth nerd kind of toy really.

My initial impression after a first listen:
Despite the mixed reviews, I think it's a great, solid album all the way through. I love it. Despite being reminiscent of older albums in some aspects it definitely has a distinctly different feel, to me atleast. I think it has a great flow to it as well. The interludes between songs give it the feeling of being one giant piece of music, which is why I think I wasn't disappointed with the shorter length of the album. But then again, I'm a huge Radiohead fanboy who thinks they can do no wrong, so I guess that needs to be taken into consideration.

I am
sort of the opposite of that. I enjoyed the first half bit more than the second.
But, I think both halves are great.

i think this cements my position that radiohead is the next pink floyd.

Just heard it, it's good

more on a mellow side i'd say... with some Kid-A-like psychedelia included

for me it's one of the best post-OK Computer albums they have made
i don't get why you people are so bummed about the lenght... i'd rather produce/listen to a 40minutes intense and good album than an hour long album that'S "too long"
i didn't want to think about a new post

i like Bends and Ok Computer more, HTTT is also very good, Amnesiac has a few good tracks (FUCK, PYRAMID SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST BY RH IMHO) and In Rainbows is kinda meh, but again - a few good tracks...

Mostly because they really like the album and would've wanted to hear more of it. That and 38 minutes really isn't a lot. Then again the PJ album clocks in under 40 minutes as did my favourite album of 2010 (The Moulting by Mares of Thrace).

I've only listened once so far but I really liked what I heard. Very floaty feeling and I love the rhythmic emphasis.
I'd like to see how they work in the studio and see how they all contribute to the tracks; without everyone's main instrument present on each track (aside from Thom's voice) it makes me wonder how there group dynamic works.

It didn't move me as much of there stuff does. I appreciate it, but don't ever find the songs going anywhere. The album is flat to me with no real difference in dynamic throughout the songs. The poly rhythmic drums are awesome though.
