So i've been thinking about this one lately. PGS has that nifty red one with the celestion that looks pretty sweet, but is it gonna be a step up from my Vox Pathfinder 15watt? does it have enough clean headroom for ambient stuffs, and could it possibly play a gig? anddddd extension cabinet?? or should i just wait it out and buy a blues deluxe or something nicer. there's a blues deluxe on craigslist for 295$, but he "needs to sell it by tuesday", so i'm pretty sure it's either stolen, or full of columbian heroine

It would be a step up, you'd be able to play a gig with it if it were miked but I don't think it has the headroom you're looking for, I'd go for somethign nicer as in something with atleast two speakers, You can get a used JC-120 for a littel less than $400 on ebay (sometimes) but if you want to go tube then I'd save for something nicer.

Have you tried the LED mod on the Pathfinder? You lose the fuzzy 80's distortion but get a bunch of headroom out of the amp, all for desoldering two components from the circuit (or clipping for an easier operation but harder reversibility). The how-to is floating around. You could also or instead replace the power amp chip with something a step louder, also with some info available through the googles.

Anyway, the incremental improvement might allow you to keep saving for something that's more a destination amp then a stepping stone.

Dude, nab that ass for $295 like Smellyfart says. But like talk him down to $250 if he needs to get rid of it so bad. I was lucky enough to get mine for $200 from a friend about ten years ago, and it's always been super solid. I've gone through five or six guitars, a hundred pedals, and aaaaalll sorts of other shit, but my one constant has been my tweed Blues Deluxe. Changed the tubes in it twice, but it's a perfect amp for home fun, practice, shows, etc. What kind of condition is it in? Oh shit... it's Tuesday now. What's the word on that?

I had a Blues Junior tweed with the Jensen speaker. Was a great amp for lower volume clean but will break up if you push it. I replaced the Jensen with a Weber 12A150 and it was almost like a different amp, better lows but also more chime with a bit more headroom. Got in the territory of my 70s Princeton reverb but louder. Needed to thin the herd so I sold it sans Weber to a friend who really digs it as is.

I've never heard a Jr, mod or not, that didn't sound like a dead tiny box.

Headroom doesn't really exist.

I'd get the Blues Deluxe but be aware that it won't have a HUGE amount of headroom but will sound good for ambient type stuff.

One of my earliest partners in crime used one when they first came out and sounded huge with it.

these are my go to small amp, although the rex speaker is unnoticable IMO
