Reading schematics

Hey guys,
Sorry for a topic that has probably been addressed on here before... I'm looking for a good tutorial on reading schematics, either online or in book form. All the searches I have done haven't given me anything guitar or pedal specific. I have been wiring my own guitars for years, based on diagrams, but now that I want to get into pedal builds I will need to give in and be able to read schematics. Any help would be appreciated.

that beavis audio research site is good. i wish i had seen that when i was trying to learn how to read schematics. it would have sped things up a bit.
my advice would be to first familiarize yourself with all the component symbols and learn which side is which on polarized components like electrolytic capacitors and diodes and whatnot.
and get a breadboard or two. breadboarding really helped me to understand schematics and what is going on in electronic circuits. breadboard everything you can.
i'd start with the simple stuff like cmos oscillators on the beavis audio site, then just start google searching effects schematics. fuzz and distortions are probably the easiest.

if your library has "electronics the easy way," that could be a good place to start. it doesnt have anything to do with pedals, specifically, but it will give you a good idea of what is going on in electronic circuits. or try searching for craig anderton's book"electronic projects for musicians." that will give you a lot of ideas for pedals and explain about how they work.

Ah,...the Anderton book is one I've heard about and the one I was trying to remember,...I may just buy it off of amazon. I'll try to find the Electronics the Easy Way at the library. Thanks!

Just wanted to say that I got super excited when I saw your username! I always told myself that if I were to ever start a black metal band that I would use orcrist as my moniker.

ha, thanks! yeah, i think i was re-reading the hobbit when i made my account. i'd be surprised if orcrist wasn't already the name of some kind of metal band. or do you mean as your personal name within the band?

Definitely my personal name...... like Cronos, Count Grishnackh, Euronymous, Hellhammer, Mortiis. I wouldn't even need to look metal if I had a cool name like those.
