Malekko 616 issues.

I think I know what we're going to decide on this, but it's worth posting about.
My girlfriend bought a Malekko 616 Ekko around December time. Last month it started cutting out when engaged and eventually not producing any sound at all when on. So she sent it back to PGS and they sent her a new one. (cool return policy ftw) The new one came today and now the modulation doesn't work.

She turned it on and the modulation led was on, but there was no modulation. She disengaged the modulation and re-engaged it and now the mod led doesn't even come on. I was pretty impressed when the pedal worked.... but ugh lame build quality. I know it's only two 616's out of many but I kind of thought of Malekko as high quality.
So we're looking at Delays on PGS in the same price range. Memory Boy, Carbon Copy and the Disaster Transport Jr. I'd like to think the 3rd Malekko would work, but fuck, they had their chance.
I've had a Memory Boy and liked it, and the Carbon Copy is kind of standard. Or the Disaster Transport Jr... which I haven't had experience with but I've always wanted to try an EQD pedal cause they look sexy and well made.
Thoughts?
Thanks ahead of time,
PP

I think the DMB is a few bucks more than a 616 and rules. I love it but some don't like the analog delay sound, but I think you do. I'd honestly go with the Memory Boy or Deluxe. They are amazing and underrated. I believe you can get all the tones out of the DMB you can the 616 plus more.

That's what I thought, but she just mentioned she liked the 616 because of the bright delay sound. So I guess modulation isn't as important, I'm thinking the EQD due to the tone knob. Although we could put her 25 boost in the effects loop to brighten up the repeats...
Sidenote: All this delay browsing made me realize the Nova Repeater is only $150.

The FX loop definitely allows even more tonal shaping, although I've not run anything through it. There's also a easter egg for high-cut so you can darken and brighten them to taste.

I'd go with the EQD.

I can't speak for the EQD, but the others listed a much darker, especially the carbon copy (that's just about as dark as delays get).
Try dealing with Josh @ malekko directly? PGS may be quick with turnaround, but odds are they sent you another return that had in backstock or something.

EL CAP FTW... Really worth it I think... Any of the knobs/parameters can be changed with an exp pedal... It's got sound on sound and can get as clean and bright or as dark and broken sounding as you want... Real nice build and cool guys to chat with... I need another...

I'd say you either go for the 616 or the EQD... or a dd3. I've been rocking the ghost disaster lately and I'm loving the delay on it (the disaster transport junior), bright or dark depending on the tone knob, has the ability to oscillate in a way that doesn't overpower everything and is manageable with guitar playing.
I got my 616 directly from Josh specifically because I was worried that something might be wrong with it, and mine worked great. The modulation on it is really nice. I've become really used to the super extreme modulation on it, the repeats kinda swoop in the background or add a cool chorusing effect.

I'd hit up Josh at Malekko. He's a very good guy and stands by his gear. I'm sure he can figure out and rectify the problem with the 616.
El Cap is cool -- too many bloody options though, gives me a headache.
Get an old DMM.

Has the Fuzz made us only able to deal with three knobs or less ? What is it so hard to get... Delay, mix, modulate... That's what's on most delays right ? I see this sentiment a lot and just wonder... No offense...

I love Delay and that's one rad pedal that stopped my delay gas for now...

seriously, it's so simple to get a good sound but, there's a lot of other stuff going on so you never get bored.
