Not a steal, but seems within reason to me.

Yeah and it has the cool old art, if you care about that sort of thing.

A very good price. You can use the money you saved on a hearing aid.
This is my favorite incarnation of the Torn's Peaker.

I've seen them sell for less BUT since it's been discontinued for some time now

the price might actually be just what You have to be prepared to pay for it. If You love crunchy crunch sounds, that's Your pedal right there. PLUS it's the older version with the E13 mojo & graphics.
CHECK TALKBASS FORUM for a rare version of this built by Tom when the pedal was licenced to Fuzzhugger fx; it's essentially the same box of crunchy venomous, eight legged, phobia-inducing death fuzz
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=10400244mind, though, the controls are a bit different from the original
http://www.fuzzhugger.com/pedal-whitespider.html...in fact.. if You're not interested in it, I might consider taking that one

I see white spiders for 150 all day long (though not necessarily e13 ones, sometimes e13 sometimes devi sometimes FH)
I would hold out unless you're dying for e13 'mojo'

Best graphic, discontinued, original knobs (my favorite), Effector 13. And it looks to be in like new condition. I don't see how $170 isn't worth it, but I'm an E13 geek... and I've played the White Spider. I remember devis old site, and the description for this pedal was one word: "Unloved."
I think I buy into mystique too much.

UNLOVED

should read across the pedal, awesome tag line for White Spider.
Funny thing it was so unloved

that it was dropped and even Tom didn't build too many of them... which, I believe, was due to Devi taking all the strings back to her hands, or something. Perhaps it's just too hairy and scary pedal for the buying majority of customers even though You and I might consider this just the thing they'd need. Or the Spectacular Aenima.
What comes to MOJO and mystique, I'm a great believer in that, though it comes in many flavors. Some pedals are great and their serial number, knobs, custom ordered art work, limited edition parts differences, and in some cases the pedal is licensed to just the right builder. All of that is what makes people bond with the pedals when they are first happy with the sounds. And in some cases even earlier

I think $170 is a bit high even for the old art. I had one listed on here for a while @ $140 shipped and no one bit....Effector 13...same art...great condition.....finally sold it to a guy on the gearpage for $135. $150 is ok.
I really liked it for a kind of trebly semi-clean that got me what I called a "post-punk clean"....a lot like the sounds on fairly early New Order songs like "Temptation" or "Everythings Gone Green".
Had lots of other sounds in it too, but in the end, for some reason, I didn't use it very much.
