Wal has been on the fringe of coming back into production forever. It was one of those brand of basses that got hyped and skyrockted in price. I still expect Wal's to carry the 5k price tag that they have been doing so for a while now, now as matching the same quality from what I read is damn good before the factory shut down is going to be one thing.
I will be interested to see if it is gong to to be a Pavel / Fodera / Carl Thompson deal. 4.8k to start in full and a wait of 2 years to get it in your hands.
They do look amazing and I would love to lay my hands on one. But the only bass I will ever wait for is a Thompson.

From what I have read they seem to be a love it or hate it type of bass. I've never played one though... The guy in Tool plays one and the guy from the Beatles uses one now and then...

oh and guy in that band from Canada played one in the 90's, you know... that band then one all the drummers and bassists worship and which most if not all girls don't like...

When a notable bass player comes to mind who uses Wal's Johannas Hellborg comes to mind.
He has a double necked Wal that is sexy.

Greg Edwards, formerly of Failure and currently of Autolux, used a Wal bass when recording and touring with Failure. He and Ken would switch guitar and bass duties on a handful of songs, but Greg was the primary bass player and used a Wal through Big Muffs, ProCo Rats, and Maestro MFZs. Let's see if I can find a picture or a VWUH-deo.

Featured prominently in Failure's video for "Stuck On You":

Mick Karn used Wals.
They are awesome, but they have a pretty distinctive sound and they are expensive.

Ditto. Carl Thompsons are just gorgeous. boutique quality, but they still feel down home
