The White Stripes are officially no more.

I had a period when I was pretty obsessed by them. I still thing everything they did up through Elephant was perfect. One of the best live bands I ever saw.

Read this yesterday. I'm pretty legitimately sad they are done. I am super bummed that I never got to see them.
Also, this scene in Under Great White Northern Lights always make me tear up.

I laugh at all the people on facebook saying "NOOOOO I WONT BELIEVE IT." But did you really think they'd make another album? Better to end it than let it turn into something forced and contrived. I found Get Behind Me Satan to be my favorite album but Icky Thump didn't click as well with me (still a great album).

anywho, love the band, glad Jack ended it to keep it real. :thumb:

Yah I'm sad about the break up. I think it was Jack white's wife's fault, I seriously doubt she would want him to be in a band with his ex wife, now sister!
Also there is a Meg White Sex Tape, I watched it and was not impressed, shame Meg shame! :omg: :omg: :omg:

same here.

As much as I love fuzz and noise the only thing I've ever liked by Jack White was that Oregon tune he did with Loretta Lynn

Changed a lot of things about mainstream music I think. Just because they were diverse, a two-piece and raw at some points...at least for me.

Never a super fan, but woulda loved to see 'em live once. Jack White's newer stuff bores me

I got to see them a handful of times before they blew up (I live in Southeast Michigan), and their live shows were always really great. I dig everything they did up UNTIL "Elephant", which I find to be bloated and dull... not that I could do better. I saw them perform mostly at the Magic Stick in Detroit, so it was right up yer ass. Saw them in New York City at the Roseland Ballroom (went to see Autolux open for them) and they weren't quite as good. Jack had adopted a Rock Star Presence on stage, and it was unbecoming of him. He always seemed moderately humble, but not at that show. I picked him out of the exiting crowd after a Weezer show in 2001 ("White Blood Cells" wasn't even out yet) and he was pleasant and seemed sincerely grateful when I told him I really dug his band.

Haven't really listened to any White Stripes for quite a few years, BUT I admire their integrity.

p.s. My best "picking the 'star' out of the crowd" moment was meeting Elliott Smith before one of his shows. That was cooler.

Damn. I pop on a White Stripes album every now and then, and they were one of my earlier influences. It's a shame to see them just up and quit.

I'm devastated I never got the chance to see them live! But I'm equally glad that they went out on such a solid note, they didn't do the off & on fizzle-out bullshit.

I'm really sad I never got to see them, but I fully understand the choice, and I'm glad they didn't just fade into unpopularity.

I always liked the stripped down back to basics approach along with his go with the screw ups attitude.

I’m sure he has another project in the works.

I am the only hater here.

Don't like them, but I think Jack Whites drive to make music is something aspire too.
